Oakland Unity Middle School (OUMS) is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, empathetic School Social Worker to join our team!

The School Social Worker is a critical member of the Oakland Unity Middle School (OUMS) team and a part of the Unity Schools Wellness Services department. The OUMS SSW helps address our middle school students’ social and emotional needs on campus so that they may overcome barriers to fully accessing their education, and excel academically. The SSW will provide services on a micro, mezzo, and macro level, intervening with individual students, groups of students, families, teachers, and staff.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct biopsychosocial assessments of students referred for Wellness Services
• Triage students and connect to necessary and relevant services on- and off-campus
• Provide individual therapy to caseload of selected students
• Provide group therapy to groups of students focusing on various topics such as depression, anxiety, healthy relationships, community building, self-image, etc.
• Provide crisis intervention to students who are experiencing immediate social or emotional needs at school
• Provide family therapy services as needed
• Provide case management and case collaboration services
• Provide mental health and social work consultation to teachers and staff
• Assist in school wide efforts to reduce suspensions, expulsions, and chronic truancy
• Keep appropriate documentation including assessment paperwork, treatment plans, progress notes, safety plans, IEP documentation, etc.
• Attend student success, 504, IEP, and other team meetings
• Attend weekly professional development meetings
• Attend weekly individual clinical supervision
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field
• Registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an ASW or AMFT
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to collaborate on an interdisciplinary level
• Prior experience working with multicultural and multilingual individuals and families
• Spanish language proficiency (intermediate or above)
