SCHEDULE DETAILS

This is a hybrid position based out of West Sacramento, CA. The hybrid schedule is two days and every third Tuesday of the month onsite and 3 days remote.

 

SUMMARY

Under general supervision of Director, Graphic Design and Branding, performs the most complex professional and specialized technical duties related to the conceptualization, design, development, programming, production, print oversight, and/or web-testing of a variety of publications, brochures, signage, models, exhibits, charts, graphics, descriptive drawings, and audio-visual presentations related to Association projects and programs; translates abstract ideas into viable formats for various projects, works closely with staff on determining product requirements; refines conceptual graphic design ideas into workable project plans; and performs related work as required. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In consultation with marketing and other Association management, plans, design, produces, presents, and evaluates a variety of outreach and educational materials to market and build the Association’s image and educate the membership on Association projects, programs, and initiatives.
  • Participates in the research, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Association’s short-and long-term communication approaches to issues; participates in planning strategies to disseminate information to customers and the public in an effective and positive manner; participates in designing programs and materials to enhance the Association’s image and maximize member and public awareness of programs and services available.
  • Performs the most complex graphic art tasks for Association publications and campaigns, including determining graphic content, images, cover art, designing and creating artwork, taking photographs, preparing layout designs, determining the most appropriate medium (i.e. electronic, paper, or both) to reach the targeted audience, presenting to department staff for review, and revising and finalizing projects.
  • Develops Association brand identities and supporting collateral; conceptualizes and prepares preliminary designs through final products and translates abstract ideas into viable formats for various design products.
  • Coordinates with staff in developing ideas; produces graphic materials in support of projects; designs layouts; acquires cost estimates and establishes schedules for production of materials; ensures quality, budget, and time requirements are met.
  • Coordinates with printers and other vendors on individual publications, cost estimates, press time, reproduction problems, materials, and ensures monetary and quality control.
  • Creates, edits, and proofreads text, as necessary, to ensure accurate and effective communication.
  • Assists with update and maintenance of the Association’s website design and usability by identifying developing new material, reviewing requests for changes from departments, aligning design and content with Association marketing plan, and ensuring consistency of information architecture and graphical user interface.
  • Assists in determining materials, suppliers, and machinery or tools needed; maintains and reorders graphic art supplies.
  • Utilizes a wide range of software programs and computer hardware in order to successfully complete projects.
  • Attends seminars and training courses to stay abreast of current trends, processes, software, and updates on graphic packages; reads trade publications, meets with vendors to stay informed of the latest developments in the fields of graphic arts, web, and photography.
  • Archives and retrieves a variety of original artwork, forms, designs, and supplies.
  • Reads and demonstrates an understanding and adherence to CSBA values, policies, and practices.
  • Demonstrates respect, honesty and professionalism at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position may be required to manage and direct other staff, with the responsibility of overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of those roles. This position will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and all applicable laws. Overall responsibilities of this position include, but may not be limited to, interviewing, training, timekeeping and wage & hour management, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing and resolving complaints.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree or higher with major coursework in graphic design, web design, visual communications, marketing, or related field with five (5) years of professional design experience in an agency or internal marketing department; five (5) plus years of experience in digital and print production, vendor management and implementing brand in collateral.
