Job Summary
The primary responsibility of the Designer is to generate Autodesk Inventor/AutoCAD drawings illustrating various assemblies, details, dimensions, sectional views, tolerances, BOM, standard designs, etc. to convey specifications and design information to fabrication. This role will read and interpret customer documents and specifications for drawing implementation, maintain digital documentation, and prepare design calculations. The Designer will work closely with the engineering department and fabrication staff to ensure drawings are accurate, consistent, and timely.
Major Responsibilities and Essential Functions

- Read and interpret customer documents, design specifications, and data sheets for drawing implementation.
- Prepare production design, pre-buy, and sales sketches. Identify design concerns and areas of uncertainty that require clarification.
- Create accurate "to scale" Inventor/AutoCAD fabrication drawings and complete "as-built" and certified drawings.
- Prepare weldments (ASME). Apply concepts such as fractions, decimals, and tolerances to satisfy drawing geometric requirements.
- Assist fabrication and sales personnel regarding drawing interpretation, dimensions, design concepts, clarification, etc.
- Complete drawings on time, following pre-assigned deadlines and instructions.
- Maintain job files and all digital documentation.
- Prepare design calculations for Engineering Manager sign-off.
- Report daily progress to the Engineering Manager and provide realistic estimates of drawing completion.
- Contact vendors to request and gather component design information to incorporate into drawings.
- Model and update part library database as required.
- Evaluate tolerance stack-ups to ensure proper fit of components and proper application of GD&T techniques.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related degree, equivalent combined education, training, and experience is required.
- 1-2+ years' experience in Design Engineering Preferred
- Technical skills with AutoCAD and/or Inventor and/or other 3D Parametric Design Software and/or FEA Analysis.
- Ability to function with minimal direction. Escalates issues as appropriate with the required level of urgency.
- Ability to create and present information on Engineering topics to audiences remotely, as well as in person.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- High level of conscientiousness and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Working Conditions
This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, office copiers, printers, and phone systems as well as operating in a medium-noise, non-climate-controlled facility with regular exposure to dust and residue. Machinery is present and in operation.
