Job Description

Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to assist in planning, organizing and developing the operation of the Life Enrichment Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines, regulations and the facilities established policies and procedures. The Lead Life Enrichment Aide is responsible for providing the residents with a variety of quality programs, one-to-one visits and sensory/environmental stimulation to enhance the quality of each resident’s life at the facility.

It is the duty of all employees to promote and support a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Commits to the Vincentian mission to nurture and sustain a ministry of compassionate care that preserves the human dignity of persons within a diverse and changing society.

2. Upholds and promotes the Vincentian values of spirituality, compassion, quality, dignity, collaboration, advocacy and stewardship.

3. Promotes and supports a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity.

4. Adheres to all facility and department work rules, policies and procedures.

5. Assist the Manager of Life Enrichment.

6. Plans, schedules, organizes and implements programs of individual and group activities and oversea the Life Enrichment Aides.

7. Completes the activities component of the resident assessment.

8. Identifies and documents in the resident’s care plan the activity interests, needs and related problem of the resident.

9. Documents all interactions with resident and/or family in the assessment and care plan as required by state standards.

10. Assist the Manager of Life Enrichment in compiling data for quality.

11. Transports/assists residents to and from activities as necessary.

12. Observes and reports pertinent information related to resident care to supervisor.

13. Maintains neatness of all activity areas including proper storage in the building assigned, activity storage room and infection control of activity supplies.

14. Documents necessary information reflecting resident plan of care for activities and assures compliance with regulatory standards. Maintains Life Enrichment attendance records for each resident.

15. Communicates effectively with residents, family members, volunteers, and other members of the health care team.

16. Attends required department meetings, educational programs and complete all required Relias training.

17. Assists in the orientation of new personnel and volunteers as assigned.

18. Always maintains resident medical and social history confidentiality.

19. Assists in preparing the activity calendar with the Life Enrichment Aide in assigned communities.

20. Distributing activity calendars by the first of each month.

21. Plans, organizes and implements a variety of expressive and creative activities based on the needs, interests, preferences and abilities of the residents including holiday celebrations and special events with the Life Enrichment Aide and with the approval of the Manager of Life Enrichment.

22. Assists in the implementation of programs that enhance a sense of well-being; provides education, creativity, provides activity programs to meet the physical, cognitive, psychosocial, spiritual and recreational needs; promotes rehabilitation, independence, self-image and quality of life for residents.

23. Recommends ordering of supplies to the Manager of Life Enrichment.

24. May provide individualized sensory stimulation, music and social programs for residents in cooperation with the Music Coordinator.

25. Observes resident’s physical and psychological needs, attitudes, reactions, etc.; reports unusual observations to supervisor.

26. Anticipates and takes action to maintain a safe environment. Incorporates safety/risk management standards into daily work practices.

27. Performs all other duties assigned.

Work Environment:

Employees of a long-term care facility work in a resident care environment that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Employees can be expected to be exposed to unpleasant odors and may encounter physically or verbally aggressive residents.

Working conditions include normal indoor temperatures. There may also be times when employees perform duties outdoors. Depending on the season, outdoor temperatures will vary.

Employees may come into contact with residents who have infectious diseases or to resident bodily fluids or blood. In addition, employees may come into contact with hazardous materials and facility equipment.
