Job Description

Coast Electric is currently seeking an entry level Fleet Technician to provide maintenance on cooperative vehicles, equipment, and machinery by inspecting, repairing, overhauling, and performing preventative maintenance. This position will be located at our Kiln office.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Fleet Technician will operate and inspect automobiles, machines, or equipment to diagnose defects. Analyze malfunctions, repair, rebuild, and maintain functional parts of automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery, such as automobiles, ditch diggers, trucks, tractors, jarraffs, track machines, generators, etc.; replace defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions; and test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency. The Fleet Technician will repair or replace parts, such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings, using mechanics hand tools; troubleshoot, overhaul, or replace fuel injection systems, blowers, alternators, distributors, starters, and pumps; dismantle and reassemble automobiles, machines, and equipment, using hoists and hand tools; and examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers, calipers, and gauges. Inspect/test defective equipment and diagnose malfunctions, using computer programs, motor analyzers, pressure gauges, charts, manuals, etc.; perform hydraulic repairs of all kinds; verify repaired mechanical and electrical systems meet manufacturers' performance specifications; rewire ignition system, lights, and instrument panels; and replace or adjust brakes, repairs or replaces shock absorbers, and repairs or replaces radiator.


The Fleet Technician will perform bodywork, fabrication, and repairs as needed for maintenance of units; perform welding and torch cutting as needed to complete fabrication work; replace and adjust headlights, and install and repair accessories, such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers; and repair and service air conditioning, heating, engine cooling, and electrical systems.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid Mississippi driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain Mississippi Class A commercial driver's license, with tractor-trailer and air brake endorsements, when requested.
  • Must have a minimum of one year experience working in an automotive setting as a technician.
  • A Gold-Level National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) and a minimum score of (5) on Graphic Literacy and (4) on Workplace Observation, is preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of automotive, equipment, and machinery maintenance and repair, including operating characteristics of power tool equipment and shop terminology.
  • Must be able to work on call and overtime as requested.
  • Must establish and maintain a Dodge training level 1 classification.
  • Must be able to visually observe a workplace event, notice details, and remember instructions, procedures, processes, and demonstrations to generalize to workplace situations that may be similar or different from what was observed.
  • Must be able to solve problems with machines and equipment found in the areas of mechanical technology (i.e., electricity, mechanics, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics).
  • Must be able to locate, summarize, compare, and analyze information to make decisions using workplace graphics to solve work-related problems.
  • Must have knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar to receive and convey information from and to others both orally through speech, hearing, and writing.
  • Must be able to read and interpret written text such as messages, emails, letters, directions, signs, notices, bulletins, policies, websites, contracts, and regulations.
  • Must have good judgement and decision-making skills.

Physical Demands:

The work is performed both inside and outside in the extremes of heat, cold, wet, and humid weather with frequent exposure to noise, vibration, fumes, odors, and dust. Some road calls are required. Must have the ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position. Must have the ability to quickly move your hand or hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects. Must have the ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands. Must have the ability to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears. Must have the ability to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing activities while the whole body is in motion. Must be able to climb and perform work on ladders and climb into and operate aerial equipment. Must have the ability to see details at close range and at a distance. Must have the ability to speak clearly so others can understand you and to hear so you can understand others nearby and from a distance. Must have ability to maintain impressions through the eyes of the shape, size, distance, motion, or other characteristics of objects. The visual functions are acuity, far and near, depth perception, field of vision, accommodation, and color vision. Must have the ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 75 lbs.
