Full Time Junior Staff Accountant

Dean & Company Strategy Consultants, a strategy consulting firm located in McLean, VA with affiliates DC Energy Management and DC Investments Management (commodity and hedge fund entities), seeks a Junior Staff Accountant to join its team.  The position will perform accounting functions principally for the commodity and hedge fund entities but will assist as part of a unified team supporting all businesses.

 The Junior Staff Accountant is responsible for monthly closing duties, including preparing journal entries, performing general ledger account analyses and reconciliations, and supporting trading operations of the commodity and hedge funds.  The ideal candidate will be highly organized, able to work independently as well as with others, and have strong attention to detail.  They should be flexible and comfortable working in a mid-sized company environment.  This position reports to the Senior Accounting Manager.

Job Description:

• Prepare and record journal entries
• Prepare cash reconciliations
• Prepare monthly balance sheet and income statement reports
• Resolve trade exceptions on a daily basis (requires prompt follow up with trading counterparties and custodians)
• Net Asset Value (NAV) reporting and reconciliation
• Update trades, valuations, journals in the fund accounting system
• Assist with preparation of the annual financial statements, schedules and ad hoc requests related to the annual audit of the financial statements
• Trade entry and reconciliation
• Corporate action processing
• Establish, modify and document accounting procedures
• Other duties as required

Qualifications:

• Minimum of Bachelors degree
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
• Strong problem solving skills
• Attention to detail
• High degree of ethics
• Hard working with intellectual curiosity and the desire/ability to learn rapidly
• Well organized and detail oriented
• Strong interest in financial markets desired
• Proficient in MS Excel
