Job Description

BASIC PURPOSE:

The purpose of this position is to provide a backup programmer and expert operator to assist the CNC programmer when the job load is heavy and to assist the department when issues arise that needs expert analysis and hands on work.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB:

· Provides support to the CNC programmers to relieve capacity issues as they arise as it pertains to CNC programming specifically.

· Serves as a backup when a CNC programmer is out on 1st or 2nd shift and supports the department as the role of CNC programmer for specific shift.

· Assists others with any machine, any part and any tool needed to complete a job.

· Maintains a safe and clean working environment, not just at the machine but for the entire department.

· Trains new employees about the set up and function of machines and tools as it pertains to the production of parts within the CNC department.

· Interprets drawings to write programs for CNC with a parametric software system that includes tolling, cutting speeds and feeds and methodology to generate quality parts that meet production standards.

· Creates setup sheets based on tooling needed for each part.

· Monitors and verifies the accuracy of each job’s initial setup and final outcome.

· Revises programs based on ECN’s.

· Communicates with supervisor, engineers, production control, quality and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues.

· Verifies that tooling is available for job’s that are being programmed

· Troubleshoots specific parts that are out of tolerance and help determine correct manufacturing process.

· Provides training to other employees on tasks as needed.

· As a lead on 2nd shift, ensures that shift production goals are met.

· Completes shift paper work (SQDC)

· Holds small meetings with night shift to ensure that information is being communicated accurately.

· Inform the Manager/Supervisor of any issues or concerns that arise during the night shift.

· Communicates information to night shift employees if Manager/Supervisor is not on site.

· Performs ancillary duties as needed.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

· High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience operating CNC machines in a manufacturing environment, and 2 years’ experience in CNC Programming. Working knowledge of the use of computer software to include, but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and MasterCam or similar programming software.

· Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills

· Knowledge and understanding of how CNC machines work

· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

· Able to work overtime if required (including weekends)

· Advanced knowledge of precision measuring equipment and the application of such equipment. Instruments should include but not limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators, ring gages and plug gages.

· Good knowledge of reading drawings and good understanding of geometric tolerancing.

· Working knowledge of various tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars and inserts used on various machines

· Working knowledge of the use of computer software to include, but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and AutoCad.

· Must be able to communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job.

· Must be adaptable to an ever changing working environment, competing demands and unexpected changes to the daily routine.
