About the Organization
Dolores Street Community Services (DSCS) nurtures individual wellness and cultivates collective power among low-income and immigrant communities to create a more just society. As a multi-issue, multi-strategy organization, we work to improve lives on an individual level as well as affect broader social change by engaging in advocacy and community organizing. We work on a wide range of issues from homelessness to housing to immigration to employment and provide services ranging from shelter to tenant rights outreach to residential care, from deportation defense and immigrant rights education to workforce development for day laborers and domestic workers.
The Safe Sleeping Village located at 1515 South Van Ness is a temporary tent encampment to provide shelter to homeless individuals during the COVID pandemic. The Shelter Monitor Lead will provide supervision to shelter monitors working onsite, providing direction and coordination related to daily assignments, coverage needs, and client support.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and supervision to shelter monitors, coordinating coverage needs and daily assignments
- Monitor the safety and well being of all clients onsite
- Ensure the implementation of all rules, policies, and organizational expectations
- Provide support related to conflict and client issues, including conflict resolution and crisis intervention
- Document and report all incidents and direct to the Program Manager
- Coordinate and communicate with Dolores Street staff and city staff to ensure effective operations
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications for Successful Employment
- Demonstrated ability to perform all essential duties and responsibilities of the position
- Strong word-processing and computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Must be well organized, efficient, highly motivated, and able to handle multiple tasks at once, work well under pressure, and take initiative
- Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred, including ability to provide written translation of documents
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team
- Experience working with low-income, immigrant, and monolingual Spanish-speaking communities
- Strong commitment to serving low-income and underserved communities
