Interventionist Teacher (Grades 4-6) 

Salary: $38,000 per year, based on qualifications.

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Status:  Exempt Regular Full-Time 

Annual Days: 196

Start Date:  July 26, 2024

Job Product:  High-quality individualized intervention instruction to qualified students with the aim of achieving mastery of content and The Vanguard School mission for those students. 


General Purpose:  The Upper Elementary Interventionist Teacher provides quality individualized instruction to eligible students in grades four through six grades through a commitment to team participation in planning and implementation of student intervention programs in consultation with special and general education staff. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

Subject matter knowledge  

  • Provide small group reading instruction to identified students.
  • Create and implement lessons to target reading deficits.
  • Administer DIBELS to students with reading deficits in grades 4-6
  • Work collaboratively with homeroom teachers to increase reading proficiency.
  • Monitor student reading progress.
  • Plans curriculum and instruction. 
  • Manages classroom climate and operation. 
  • Promotes achievement. 
  • Meets professional responsibilities. 

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:  As needed or assigned. 


 Qualifications, Knowledge, and Abilities: 

  • Principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies pertaining to teaching and instruction of elementary students. 
  • Child growth and development and behavior characteristics of upper elementary students.  
  • Educational curriculum and instructional goals and objectives; and the educational trends and research findings pertaining to student educational programming. 
  • Behavior management and behavior shaping strategies, techniques and methods, and conflict resolution procedures. 
  • Socio-economic and cultural background differences of the general school population 
  • Technology including computers and computer programs. 
  • Plan, organize, develop, and enthusiastically conduct a comprehensive teaching and instruction program for pupils in four through six grades.  
  • Apply concepts and abstract learnings to practical situations. 
  • Provide effective learning experiences for students with a wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and with varying mental, social, and emotional levels. 
  • Effectively access the educational needs of students and design, develop, and implement sound individualized educational plans. 
  • Perform research and development activities pertaining to related upper elementary curriculum and instruction programs, pilot programs, and innovative programs designed to enhance student educational opportunities and experiences. 
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written from using grammatically correct language. 
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.

 

Minimum Requirements:    

  • Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. 
  • Passed the Elementary Education and Reading Exams (Praxis II)
