CNC Operator

What is a CNC Operator?
The CNC Operator operates computer numerical control machines to fabricate parts, loads parts in the machine, cycles machine and detects malfunctions in machine operations, such as worn or damaged cutting tools. You will work under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area and possess a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.
In this role, you will:
• Read production orders, gauges, interpret blueprints and material specifications
• Adjust the machine offsets to control finish dimensions as well as make sure the machines are set up properly, working well, and producing quality product
• Translate the requirements of detailed part drawings into measurements for production
• Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to shop foreman or person designated
• Inspect the finished product to ensure it is defect-free and ready for the next step in production
• Regularly performs milling, turning, drilling, tapping, de-burring and sawing
• Inspect with the appropriate gauging technique and keep defective material report current
• Perform traceability marking and documentation
• Keep appropriate documents current and accurate
• Operation of overhead crane and forklift
• Basic equipment and tooling upkeep, shop housekeeping and chip disposal
• Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment
• Assists in other work areas as required
Required and Preferred Abilities:
• Strong math skills, including decimals and fraction
• Working knowledge of machine maintenance and operation
• Mechanically inclined with basic machinery and tooling knowledge
• Ability to read, write and communicate well
• Interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures
• Limited computer knowledge
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
• Regularly required to talk or hear, frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms
• Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling objects that are 50 pounds or less
• Exposure to fumes or airborne particles, vibration, and moving mechanical parts
• Noise level in the shop may be loud
Education:
• High School diploma
• Prior experience as a CNC Operator or a completion of a CNC program from a technical or trade school
