POSITION: Head Start Program - Family Services HEALTH Worker

LOCATION: Miami and Miami Gardens rotating during week, FL (4 centers)

STATUS: Full-Time with Full Benefits

SALARY: $22.50 per hour, 40 hours per week, about $46,800.00 annualized


Summary: Responsible for assuring that health and developmental services are being delivered in accordance with Head Start performance standards and guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Links families with on ongoing system of health care; attend Health Services Advisory Committee meetings; review, evaluate and interpret immunization records; promote health and safety practices in the agency.
Works with Family Support Workers and Center Directors in obtaining complete medical and developmental history for each child who enrolls in the Head Start/Early Head Start Program.
Inputs health information into computer; maintain health charts and records and ensures that all student and program health files are accurate and up to date.
Assumes primary responsibility for all health related tracking and follow-up, including but not limited to, physical exams, special health needs, dental exams, dental follow-up, and immunizations.
Identifies and assesses medical needs of children and refer parents to providers for treatment.
Provides follow up on abnormal findings on physical exams by consulting with parents and health providers.
Ensures compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations regarding physical exams and immunizations.
Arranges and participates in health care & Health and Safety training programs for staff, parents and children.
Participates in health related staffing and screening conferences.
Measures heights and weights two times per year on each enrolled child and generate BMI charts for child files.
Completes vision and hearing screenings on each Head Start child within 45 days of enrollment.
Notifies supervisor and Center Directors of all special health needs for children and follow up with health providers to ensure that Individual Health Plans are written and in child files.
Follows up to ensure that Individual Health Plans are properly implemented by classroom staff.
Maintains positive relationships with community health partners.
Completes all health related Program Information Report data.
Observes children in classroom to detect health care needs.
Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to Head Start/Early Head Start children, families and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Attends all workshops and meetings as deemed necessary by the supervisor
Monitors the overall operation of all health services of all Head Start sites.
Monitors all written reports necessary for the delivery of health related services.
Attends all appropriate meetings to plan and discuss programmatic matters.
Provides encouragement to site staff and recommend training opportunities to increase their ability to enhance health services and awareness.
Provides and evaluate training for all staff in the following areas: first aide; filling out forms correctly.
Represents the agency in a professional manner at: meetings; training/workshops/seminars; conferences; functions.
Maintains high visibility throughout all YWCA centers.


Requirements:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Community Health, Health Services, Nursing, or related field, State Certified Nurse Assistant documentation desired. Licenses such as LPN, RN, CRN a definite plus. Possess knowledge or attend training to acquire the knowledge of public health, nursing, health education, maternal and child health or health administration. Experience and/or knowledge or relevant Head Start Performance Standards. Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices and general knowledge of Florida licensing requirements for childcare centers; requires level 2 DCF background clearance, certificate of Good Health and Tine test, and drug test.
