Job Description

Grocery - Service Clerk


Gjusta Grocer: A neighborhood grocery store, filled with bread, wine, and produce from local farms. Everything you need to prepare a spectacular meal, or for a picnic on the beach


Reports to: General Manager, Manager

Department: Floor

Position Classification: FLSA Non-Exempt, Hourly Employee

Salary Range: $20 to $24 per hour DOE


Job Responsibilities: Tier 1 team members are fully trained on one station at the store.

  • Report for duty on time and ensure you use the time clock to check in and out. Manage your time, including taking rest and meal breaks in compliance with California Labor Law. Keep the Manager informed when you leave the floor.
  • Maintain high standards of appearance and hygiene that include clean clothes, nails and hair and no heavy perfumes/colognes.
  • Restocks all bags, packaging and utensils needed throughout the shift
  • Complete all opening, closing, and side work duties according to the corresponding checklists
  • Stock and face all areas of the store, including but not limited to the produce display, the merchandisers, and the retail shelving
  • Assist guests with finding products, according to their specific needs
  • Pack orders for pickup, delivery and in-store shopping carefully, to maintain product quality during transport
  • Ring through and close out all orders in the POS system correctly
  • Have a basic understanding of all produce, baked goods and Gjusta-made products in the store
  • Have a basic understanding of the Gjelina Group as a whole, all operations and their operating hours
  • Review all provided training materials, and continually educate about the products in the store
  • Properly use and maintain all equipment in the store
  • Cleans, sanitizes, and organizes the counters and store and attend to any spills or messes in a timely manner
  • Ensure proper cash handling methods are used to have a cash drawer that is balanced
  • Maintain high operational standards to thwart any shoplifting attempts

  • Must have problem solving abilities, be self-motivated, and organized

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

  • Knowledge of all products in the store, to be able to identify them
  • Understanding, knowledge, and ability to comply with safety, sanitation and food handling procedures
  • Ability to prioritize work activities, provide accurate information and assistance to any management or colleagues' request in a timely and courteous manner
  • Ability to keep calm when faced with any unusual situations
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor / manager

Physical Demands/Working Environment

  • Able to walk and stand for long periods of time (8 - 12 hours)
  • Must be able to move, pull, push, carry or lift up to 30 pounds on occasion and 25 pounds regularly
  • Must be able to seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands regularly and in frequent or repetitive motions
  • Must be able to reach items at varying height levels (on shelves, on ground, etc.)
  • Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch and climb as required
  • Must be able to work in conditions of environmental exposure to cold, heat, and water
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment

Other Requirements

  • CA Food Handler Certification - Food Handling & Sanitation Awareness
  • Must understand how to abide by the rules of the Department of Health related to Food Service.
