General Position Summary:

The principal duty of all employees is to assist in the mission of the Church in the Diocese of Fort Worth.

Under the supervision of the Pastor of the Parish, oversee and coordinate outreach efforts of the parish to serve those in need in the surrounding community through providing social services, financial assistance, food pantry and thrift store operations.

Principal Accountabilities:

Collaborate with the Pastor to create a vision of parish outreach efforts within the parish and immediate surrounding community.

· Collaborate with the Business Manager to create relevant policies and procedures in keeping with Church teaching and with relevant state and diocesan policies pertaining to health, safety and Safe Environment.

· Oversee daily operations of the Outreach center to include the Thrift Store. This includes acceptance and decline of donations in accordance with state health guidelines, training and supervision of cashiers and interacting with customers.

· Oversee food pantry operations to include acceptance of donations, solicitation and reception of “day-old” goods on “bread runs” with local businesses and maintenance of food stores in accordance with health department regulations.

· Oversee financial assistance and social services operations to include setting policies, training and supervising volunteer caseworkers and maintaining reports of clients served.

Seek approval from supervisors when the amount of assistance required is above a designated threshold.

· Perform all Human Resources functions for volunteers in the Outreach center to include careful screening of volunteers for fitness for the ministry, facilitating background checks and other Safe Environment requirements, training them in relevant policies and procedures, removing unfit volunteers from ministry and facilitating further opportunities for development and training.

· Collaborate with parish community to integrate Outreach into the pastoral life of the community. Coordinate with other ministries to include parishioners of all ages and abilities.

-Oversee the “Adopt a Family” program that occurs on Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and other relevant holidays

· Collaborate with other social services agencies in the surrounding community such as GRACE, Christian Community Action (CCA), other faith communities, Catholic Charities for referrals as needed.

· Collaborate with local agencies such as the Police and Fire departments to identify vulnerable populations suffering crises from disaster or violence and facilitate responsive services when needed.

· Identify populations with special needs such as those that are learning disabled, developmentally delayed, possessing physical disabilities or who do not speak English as the primary language within the home and adapt services to meet their needs.

· Supervise all budgetary and finance functions on behalf the Outreach center including planning, forecasting, procurement, reporting, invoicing and collaborating with the Business, Facilities and Finance Manager regarding requirements.

· Be well-versed in Safe Environment requirements for volunteers and reporting requirements. Report all cases of suspected abuse to proper authorities in accordance with local laws and diocesan policies.

· Maintain confidentiality and refer participants and families to pastoral care when necessary.

  • Oversee the intake, distribution and management of physical and financial donations through trained, volunteer staff.
  • Organize initiatives to collect goods, foods, and funds to assist the needs of marginalized, impoverished individuals and families within the local community.
  • Accurate record keeping and accounting of financial or other forms of assistance offered to clients.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Flexible work hours based on seasonal demands and the needs of the local community.
  • Ability to lift uo to 50 lbs if needed.
  • Ability to balance and appropriately prioritize multiple projects and requirements.
  • Must comply with hiring requirements, both Federal and those of the Diocese of Fort Worth.

Travel Requirements:

  • Some travel required, up to 10%

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • At least an associate degree or certificate in business or a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated work experience for three or more years in a managerial setting or in social work. Five or more years preferred.
  • At least three years work or volunteer experience dealing with vulnerable populations. Five or more years preferred.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Able to work with vulnerable, diverse populations experiencing crisis
  • Knowledge of the Catholic Church, including an in-depth familiarity with its teaching on social justice
  • Knowledge of budgeting and accounting principles and practices.
  • Skill in creating, writing, and editing various documents and graphic flyers.
  • Skill in event planning and management
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office required.
  • Successful completion of the Parish Safe Environment process.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus

FLSA Designation: Non - Exempt

Job Grade: Part Time, 20-25 hours per week
