This position will be located in Wampum, PA.

Purpose:

The PC&L Manager will manage the activities of production control & logistics for the Vesuvius Penn (Wampum and Coraopolis plants) to achieve the optimization of resources and assure internal and external customer satisfaction. This includes the delivery of raw materials and components, analyzing forecasts, scheduling of production demand, reporting of production activities and shipment of finished goods and third-party products. The position serves as a leader, trainer, and mentor to immediate staff members.

Direct Reports: Salary and non- union employees including Shipping and Receiving Coordinators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs and coordinates supply chain functions involved in: production scheduling, MRP planning, goods receiving, warehousing and inventory control, shipment of Vesuvius Penn manufactured product and re-sell products.
  • Develops and maintains Sales, Inventory and Operations Plans (SIOP): consolidates medium term Site SIOP (6 months), coordinates translation of SIOP plan into short term Master Production Schedule by PLN (12 weeks) and the weekly MPS meeting, provides weekly feedback on plan execution.
  • Coordinates capacity studies to predict customer variation and communicates this accordingly. Participates in the bottle neck analysis.
  • Coordinates production planning process. Ensures orders are responded to and put in the production schedule at the earliest opportunity while maintaining plant efficiency and labor cost control.
  • Analyzes the production plans from the manufacturing. Assures the responsibility of the MPS with Operations Manager.
  • Implements the Lean concepts in the subordinate area (FIFO, Kanban, 5S..).
  • Standardizes the work methods in the form of Procedures and Standardized Work Instructions.
  • Ensures that all Safety, Quality and other applicable Vesuvius standards are strictly implemented.
  • Monitors logistics performance with the use of KPIs and implements necessary improvement actions in coordination with other plant functions (Quality, Production).
  • Monitors and corrects inventory levels at outside/internal warehouses to ensure rotation and maximize working capital.
  • Ensures timely selection of carriers to meet delivery dates and coordinates material availability to satisfy customer demand.
  • Ensures On Time Shipping schedule for shipping department.
  • Works with transportation companies to set the best routes and rates.
  • Coordinates the preparing and analyzing of the deliveries schedules.
  • Processes logistic related CCAR’s / SCAR’s ensuring compliance with group standards.
  • Works directly with regional functions to determine the most cost-effective supply chain strategy.
  • Supports proper utilization of ERP system by the direct and indirect reports.
  • Actively participates in Material Costs Reduction processes.
  • Acts as a change agent to instill a Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement culture with a focus on building strong and positive working relationships.
  • Ensures adequate staffing, training and development of team members.
  • Motivates the team to ensure high levels of productivity and on-time-delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Preferably in Business or Supply Chain
  • 7+ years of operations experience in a manufacturing environment to include procurement, demand planning, scheduling, production posting, MRP planning, inventory control and shipping.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role overseeing the work of a team including hiring, training, performance evaluation, coaching and mentoring.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • ERP system experience a must - JD Edward preference.
  • Must be familiar with total quality and continuous improvement methods within a manufacturing environment. World Class Manufacturing/Lean Manufacturing tools. Capable of complex data analysis and use of analytical tools such as root cause analysis/8D methodology

    Problem Solving and Complexity

    Required to manage day to day problem solving exercises with direct reports to ensure any reporting issues or procedural issues are resolved quickly so data input functions are accurate. Meeting expected customer demand on complex orders (example Precast shapes where tooling delivery times are not firm) prove challenging. High demand periods, inventory allocation issues (IDN’s, surplus raw materials, substitutions) and staffing issues and would all require consult with Site Manager.

    This Production Control and Logistics Manager will report to the Site Manager. The salary for this position starts at $80,000 USD Annual. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including experience, education and location.
