Position Overview

As KTAR Traffic fill-in reporter, you will play a critical role in gathering relevant information such as crashes, road construction and breaking traffic news to be reported by anchors. You will also regularly deliver traffic reports as scheduled. We’re looking for a highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented professional to stay engaged and alert of all traffic news updates, gather timely traffic information, execute traffic alerts and contribute to the digital content distribution of breaking traffic news. This position will also be a part of the KTAR newsroom. This on-call position is an opportunity for a hungry broadcast professional with a desire to contribute to a winning team and be a part of our traffic department within the newsroom.

Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion.

  • This position is an onsite role that requires the employee to regularly work at our Phoenix site.

What You Will Do:

Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to:

Traffic Reporting [may be called in to fill-in during the following shifts]

  • Weekday mornings: 5a-9a, Middays: 9a-3p, Afternoons: 3p-7p as either traffic editor or reporter, or both. Weekends: 8a-4p. 
  • Utilize traffic cameras, official social media sources, monitoring of police scanners and internal Bonneville resources to deliver traffic news on air. 
  • Gather and provide a running list of problems on Phoenix-area roads, freeways and situations affecting traffic for use KTAR Traffic Center staff. 
  • Effectively and appropriately use social media to present traffic updates via all available media channels. 
  • On-call opportunities are often during KTAR News holidays and as full-time staff takes vacation.  
  • Contribute to news coverage by pitching or enterprising potential traffic stories. 
  • Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures. 

Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:

  • A minimum of 1 year of traffic reporting experience or producer experience preferred. 
  • The ability to understand and utilize news feeds and social media.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including conversational, yet professional news delivery. 
  • Proficiency in editing audio using software like Audition or Newsboss Audio Editor is a plus. 
  • Prefer knowledge in using news software Newsboss.  
  • Multilingual skills preferred. Spanish language speaking and writing preferred. 
  • Strong desire to work at Arizona’s largest and most respected award-winning news radio station.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to fill-in on as asked by traffic supervisor or news director. 
  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively. 
  • Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. 
  • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination. 
  • Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion. 

Compensation Range

$17-$21 per hour

Hourly rate will be determined by an evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal and external benchmarks.
