Sojourner House mission is offering compassionate, faith-based recovery services to women and their children.

The Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) provides residents in recovery, and their children, with awake, 24-hours per day, 7-days per week, supportive services including education, guidance, monitoring and supervision of daily activities to ensure safety and adherence to program rules, regulations, and guidelines. RSS's demonstrate and implement the Sojourner House philosophy, principles, and procedures assuring quality in all facets of performance.

Shifts include 2:30pm-10:30pm, 3pm-11pm, and 10:30pm-6:30am; 6:30am-2:30pm.

FT overnight RSS shifts include:

Sunday through Thursday nights (10:30pm - 6:30am) with Friday and Saturday night off.

Tuesday through Saturday nights (10:30pm - 6:30am) with Sunday and Monday night off.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required with at least two years of applicable paid experience required. Certified Addiction Counselor and or Certified Recovery Specialist preferred.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

  • The ability to to handle confidential information and HIPAA guidelines.
  • The ability to maintain a positive, solution-focused demeanor when responding to conflicts or problems.

  • Understanding of gender-responsive, trauma-informed and recovery oriented systems of care.
  • Because of our mission statement, must be supportive of faith-based approaches.
  • Model and support clients and staff in health and wellness activities and with using healthy coping skills.
  • Must possess computer skills and administrative duties including the ability to learn and record all relevant software programs for the position (ex. Microsoft, Word, Outlook email)
  • Because of treatment philosophy, persons identified or who have been diagnosed with an alcohol or other drug dependence be abstinent for at least two (2) years prior to employment and remain abstinent throughout employment.
  • Ability to secure and maintain Act 33 and 34 clearances, FBI clearance
  • Must obtain PPD test and CPR /first aid certification.
  • Valid PA driver's license.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
  • Supervises clients in daily activities, parenting, personal hygiene, social skills, recreational activities, and problem solving.
  • Intervenes directly to identify, prevent, and report crisis situations to clinical staff for guidance on de-escalation and conflict resolution.
  • Performs apartment inspections, periodic rounds, urinalysis testing and searches on residents to ensure abstinence.
  • Preparation and housekeeping of apartments (i.e. washing linen, cleaning kitchen, sweeping/mopping, moving furniture, removing items from apartments such as garbage.
  • Operates company vehicles and provides client transportation to appointments, pharmacy and supply pick-up, and transport to shopping and community events.
  • Responsible for maintaining professionalism and maintaining positive relationships with external sources and representatives from community.
  • Maintains safety, security, cleanliness of the unit, vehicles, and equipment and assures proper use of supplies.
  • Responsible for meeting quality assurance standards, licensing, credentialing and regulatory compliance, and achieving program and client outcome goals
  • Completes timely and accurate documentation.
  • Monitors medication and maintains medication log.
  • Receive professional development through participation in supervision, staff meetings, and trainings (Must complete 6 hours of DDAP training during the first two years of employment, plus other areas of training that may be identified as essential to job performance).
