PACU Nurse Manager

JOB SUMMARY:
The PACU Nurse Manager will be delegated by the Clinical Director. He/she is expected to effectively communicate with all team members to provide for the safe and smooth execution of the surgery schedule. He/she will provide a positive and professional atmosphere so as to enhance the work environment and the patient’s surgical experience. Assists with management and supervisory responsibilities in the PACU units. Functions in the role of team facilitator and coordinator and ensures regulatory compliance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Set up PACU units, count narcotics with another nurse or delegate.
Check code cart and defibrillator or delegate to a staff member.
Check bedside supplies for PACU units as needed and ensure special equipment is available for daily operations.
Fill out building maintenance and biomedical service requests as needed.
File incident reports within 24 hours to the Clinical Director when necessary.
Check staffing and make necessary changes in daily assignments updating staff as to schedule changes.
Coordinate patient assignment ensuring safe practice and delivery of quality care.
Assign lunch breaks for staff members through self-management or other staff.
Supervise other staff members in the PACU units and oversee safety practices of staff, ensuring a safe, efficient, positive and supportive environment.
Compile monthly and daily staffing schedule and assignments for next day, including late assignment and flexes own schedule to work late as assigned.
Assist with orientation, training, and education of new personnel and act as a resource to staff in designated units.
Functions in the staff RN capacity, assessing patient care needs, evaluating, implementing, and documenting quality patient care.
Responds promptly and effectively in emergency situations and initiates appropriate action.
Acts as liaison between staff, management team and administration, and promotes communication between team members, physicians, and sales reps, demonstrating outstanding customer service.
Address/problem-solve staff issues with HR assistance as needed.
Compile and complete yearly and new employee performance evaluations and participate in interviews for potential staffing additions.
Maintains accurate records and prepares various reports as necessary and as requested by the Clinical Director.
Demonstrated experience in the clinical setting reflecting ASPAN guidelines, and nurse practice standards.
Responsible for cost-containment and accountable for participation in quality and performance improvement.
Adheres to LCS policies, procedures, and Team Ground Rules.
Maintains professional competency through continuing education, attending conferences and leadership skill-building through literature, research and evidence-based practice.
EXPERIENCE:
Five years PACU/Critical Care nursing experience
Previous Charge and leadership experience
Current ACLS/PALS, BLS certification
CAPA or CPAN certification desirable
Affiliation with professional organizations encouraged
EDUCATION:
Currently registered to practice professional nursing in New York State
Bachelor of Science degree required
