Head Start Teacher (Full Year)

Program and Location: Head Start, North Platte Full Day, Full Year Program

Position Summary: The Teacher is responsible for direct contact with children in the classroom, providing developmentally appropriate activities on a daily basis, challenging them at their level, and encouraging success for all students. The Teacher also provides a safe, pleasant, active learning and problem-solving environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children, establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment, and support the social and emotional development of children.
• Implementing curriculum which includes active learning and practices that are developmentally appropriate.
• Complete home visits and parent/staff conferences.
• Ensure classroom management and lesson planning/implementation.
• Recruit, maintain, and train classroom volunteers.
• Ensure implementation of oral health practices.
• Be actively engaged in all Head Start activities and model appropriate behavior.

Tasks and Duties:

• Train and mentor classroom staff.
• Track daily attendance.
• Developmental and social emotional screenings
• Speech screenings and child growth assessments
• Monitoring the playground to ensure safety.
• Attend annual center open house.
• Update center inventory annually.

Education Requirements:

• Minimum requirement is an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. Individuals with a CDA (Child Development Associate), who are actively working towards an Associate’s may be considered. Individuals with Bachelor's degrees in Early Childhood Education or a related field will be considered and additional compensation is available. Willing to train the right person and provide assistance in obtaining a CDA and AA!

• Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with Head Start families, other agency employees and the general public.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to provide leadership to classroom staff, parents/guardians and classroom volunteers.
• Model appropriate and professional behavior.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Excellent communication skills.
• Obtain and maintain required Teacher Certifications.
• All Head Start Employees are expected to abide by the Standards of Conduct and keep all agency matters confidential.

Schedule/Hours: 40 hours per week, full year position. Scheduled hours are generally between 7:30 am – 3:30 pm, Monday-Friday.

Pay Rate: Starting wage ranges from $16.22 – $20.99. Starting wage will depend on education and experience. Individuals who have a minimum of a High School Diploma and commit to obtaining a CDA (Child Development Associate), then an AA (Associate’s Degree) would start as a Teacher Assistant at an entry wage of $13.36. Additional compensation is available once the CDA process begins.
