SUPERVISED BY: Director of Strategic Media and Advocacy  

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Youth Fellowship Coordinator 

JOB TYPE: Part-Time - 20 Hours a week

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

This part-time position entails assisting with the S.P.E.A.K. (Suicide Prevention Education and Knowledge) Youth Fellowship media campaign, conducted in collaboration with our partners: The Center, Civilian, and the California Department of Public Health, specifically within Riverside County. The primary responsibility is to aid in the development and promotion of media content distributed by diverse external entities and internal contacts at various levels. This involves maintaining social media assets linked to events and services led by youth aged 15-17.

The Media Assistant will contribute to planning, prioritizing, and organizing media assets to effectively convey both the message and the voices of the youth involved in the fellowship program, under the guidance of the Program Coordinator. This role not only supports the organizational mission, vision, and values of Rainbow Pride Youth Alliance (R.P.Y.A) but also contributes to a broader message concerning suicide prevention aligned with the mission of our program funders, "Never a Bother” campaign.

Working closely with youth who aim to reduce ideation and aligning with concepts from the "Never a Bother" campaign, the Youth Fellowship Media Assistant plays a pivotal role in building the S.P.E.A.K. Fellowship and its brand. They will provide support to both the Director of Strategic Media & Advocacy and the Youth Fellowship Program Coordinator.


ABOUT THE S.P.E.A.K. FELLOWSHIP 

The S.P.E.A.K. fellowship is a hands-on program designed to uplift the voices of Black and Latine LGBTQ+ youth ages 15-17 through a series of 6 individual cohorts. The goal of the program is not only to increase awareness and provide communication skills for youth to share their experiences with dealing with topics of self harm, but to create creative and informative ways to engage adults on the topic of ideation and suicidality. The program is geared towards youth who are passionate about LGBTQ+ issues, mental health and decreasing stigma around suicide. 


EXAMPLE OF ACTUAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Content Creation: Creating engaging multimedia content such as graphics, videos, and written posts for social media platforms, newsletters, websites, and other communication channels.
  • Social Media Management: Managing and updating social media accounts, including weekly “Never a Bother” posts, scheduling in conjunction with R.Y.P.A. Communications protocol, responding to comments and messages, and monitoring analytics to track engagement and reach.
  • Graphic Design: Designing promotional materials, event flyers, banners, and other visual assets using graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Canva.
  • Video Production: Assisting in the production of videos for promotional purposes, including filming, editing, and adding effects or animations as necessary.
  • Website Maintenance: Updating and maintaining the organization's website with relevant content, announcements, and event information using content management systems like WordPress or Squarespace.
  • Photography: Capturing high-quality photographs at events and gatherings for promotional use on various platforms.
  • Communication Support: Assisting with drafting press releases, newsletters, and email communications to keep members and supporters informed about upcoming events and initiatives.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with other R.P.Y.A. team members, volunteers, and leaders to brainstorm ideas, plan campaigns, and coordinate efforts for effective communication and outreach.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Monitoring media channels and tracking the effectiveness of communication strategies through analytics tools, and preparing reports on key metrics and outcomes.
  • Stay Updated: Staying informed about current trends and best practices in social media, digital marketing, and youth engagement to continuously improve the organization's media presence and outreach efforts.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill and/or ability required.   • Some experience/knowledge of social media management, social services, human services or related fields.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a youth setting. 
  • At least one year of experience in some form of media, specifically LGBTQ+ advocacy.

  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software, including Word, Excel, and other MS Office products 


Pay: Stipend - $25/hr, 20 hours per week 

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday (Hybrid) 
  • Weekends as needed
