Job Description

Position Summary:

The Assistant Clubhouse Manager reports directly to the Clubhouse Manager and will have responsibility for overseeing all aspects of food and beverage daily service operations, to include cleanliness, timeliness of food service, executing banquets and restaurant outlets. The position will work closely with the Clubhouse Manager and Food & Beverage Director to drive hospitality excellence, standards of service, and member engagement. This is a front facing and high visibility role with membership and employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Engages with members, guests, and staff; listening to expectations, concerns, and suggestions; observing, assessing, and evaluating all areas of responsibility, and working closely with the Clubhouse Manager to implement appropriate and incremental improvements.
  • Actively engages with members and employees on the floor during service, working with the team to ensure a positive and memorable member experience.
  • Provides effective leadership, demonstrating honesty and integrity in a positive and upbeat manner to employees through instruction, coaching, ongoing feedback, and leading by example.
  • Facilitates a strong and positive team environment with high moral, ethical standards, and instilling a team-player concept in all employees.
  • As a hands-on manager, you are approachable and involved in employee hiring, training and development, performance management, and assisting the Clubhouse Manager with managing long-range staffing needs; inclusive of the club’s H2B/J1 international program.
  • Continuously seeks improvements within the Clubhouse and food and beverage operations in an effort to provide the highest level of service possible.
  • Research new products/services/vendors and develop a cost/benefit analysis.
  • Disseminates information effectively and coordinates activities between departments.
  • Ensures that all member and club events are well conceived and executed; inclusive of directing the activities related to lectures, showcases, event entertainment, travel arrangements, talent contracts, marketing materials, stage rentals, and kids’ weeks throughout season in partnership with Clubhouse Manager and other departments.
  • In partnership with Clubhouse Manager, partners with valet company to manage daily operations, food & beverage delivery services and seasonal international shuttle bus operations.
  • Supports Clubhouse Manager and functions as an administrative link between several departments.
  • Assists and provides input to Clubhouse Manager in budget planning process.
  • Monitors safety conditions and employees’ conformance with safety procedures; emergency plans, AED compliance, procedures and assures that effective training for these programs is conducted in all departments.
  • Participates in ongoing facility inspections throughout the club to assure that cleanliness, maintenance, safety, and other standards are consistently attained.
  • Counsels with other managers and employees related to employee concerns and complaints in partnership with human resources; directs problem correction and issues disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Monitors labor; evaluates scheduled and actual labor hours and costs.
  • Partners with Human Resources in planning and executing employee events throughout the year.
  • Ensures that all legal requirements are consistently followed.
  • Attends management and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the Clubhouse Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has direct reports and indirect supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Position operates in a professional club environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • While performing duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk or hear, sit or stand in stationary position for extended periods of time, lift, bend, or stoop as necessary.
  • Frequently lift/move up to 10lbs and occasionally lift/move up to 40lbs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position, 40+ hours/week. Evening, weekend, and holidays required as job duties demand.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management or equivalent degree and/or advanced knowledge and experience in management in a premier private country club.
  • Member of Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) and other professional associations.
  • Attends conferences, workshops, and meetings (e.g., CMAA’s World Conference and Club Business Expo and CMAA chapter meetings) to keep abreast of current information and developments in the field to enhance his or her value and quality of services to the members.
  • Strong knowledge of the food and beverage, hospitality, and private club industry with a minimum of four or more years’ progressive experience in private club/hospitality industry and at least three years’ experience in a management/supervisory position.
  • Experience successfully managing multi-unit operations.
  • Strong communication with ability to communicate comfortably with all levels of the club.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with varying priorities at one time to deliver results on time and within budget.
