Position Summary:  


Under the supervision of the Mental Health Coordinator, the Latinx Victim Advocate is responsible for providing  advocacy-based counseling and case management services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, trafficking, and stalking. The Advocate will also provide community outreach and liaise with community partners to improve referral networks and systems interfacing with Latinx survivors.  


The Advocate will carry a caseload of clients and must be able to respond appropriately to a diverse range of survivors healing from trauma. The Latinx Victim Advocate will prioritize client intake and  assessment, and provide safety planning, case management, counseling, and advocacy services. The  Advocate may also facilitate psychoeducational, prevention, and/or support groups with teens and/or  adults. The Advocate will effectively implement trauma-informed practices and utilize an empowerment  model to support clients in achieving survivor-defined goals.


Responsibilities:

  

  • Provide collaboration/liaison between agency, clients and community.  
  • The Victim Advocate will assess the victims needs and work with community partners to refer victims to resources as needed. 
  • Provide case management/counseling/ support services to victims of domestic violence, child  abuse, sexual assault, and other violent crimes.  
  • Facilitate support groups as appropriate in collaboration with community partners.
  • Provide support to victims navigating the criminal/civil justice system (accompaniment applying for DVO, restitution, support creating impact statements, etc.)  
  • Maintain statistics, reports and administrative tasks in a timely fashion.  
  • Comply with State reporting of abuse and neglect.  
  • Attend staff meetings, agency meetings, case reviews and assigned community meetings; assist  in training as assigned. 



Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in human service related field required. Master’s degree with a  minimum of 2 years of experience working with survivors of gender-based violence in a counseling setting preferred. Bilingual in Spanish/English required. Additional languages are a plus. Successful candidate will have a strong working knowledge of domestic violence and trauma-informed care/empowerment models, skills in crisis intervention, individual advocacy and counseling, as well as  experience with multidisciplinary collaboration. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.

Responsibilities also include:

Attend weekly staff meetings.

Respond in a timely manner to messages during work hours. 

Report to La Casita Team supervisor during check-ins as scheduled.

Be mindful that as a team member of La Casita Center you are seen as representative of the organization at all times, in physical and digital spaces. 

Assist with maintaining La Casita Center space and regular office hours.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or related field

Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques

Fluency in the Spanish language required


Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

Ability to work in a highly stressful environment
