Your role as a Specialist, Data Visualization and Analytics

As the Data Visualization and Analytics Specialist at United Way for Southeastern Michigan, you will play a crucial role in analyzing, interpreting, and visualizing data to support our Client Services teams, including 2-1-1, Community Information Exchange, and Social Navigation. Your insights will drive continuous improvement, facilitate learning, and enable data-informed decision-making. To excel in the role of Data Visualization and Analytics Specialist at United Way for Southeastern Michigan, candidates must possess a diverse skill set. Proficiency in collecting, managing, and analyzing data from various sources is essential for supporting Client Services teams effectively. The ability to work collaboratively with teams to understand key performance indicators and develop tailored analytic plans is crucial. Experience in leveraging visualization tools like PowerBI, Power Query, Excel and ArcGIS to transform data into actionable insights is highly valued.

Strong analytical skills, including quantitative and qualitative analysis, are necessary to identify patterns and trends within complex data sets. Effective communication skills, a commitment to racial equity, and a passion for empowering others through data-driven decision-making are key attributes for success in this role.

Some Duties are:
• Collect, manage, and analyze data in a wide range of formats and from multiple sources for the Client Services teams.
• Work with the Client Services teams to understand their KPIs and develop analytic plans to evaluate business questions, problems and opportunities.
• Identify manual processes that hinder productivity and work with cross- functional teams to implement process improvements that streamline or automate data collection.
• Leverage visualization tools {PowerBI, ArcGIS, etc.} to translate data into actionable information to drive value and results with donors, volunteers, partners, and the broader community.
• Analyze and interpret data using various techniques to identify patterns and trends.
• Communicate complex data and information in accessible formats and compelling data stories tailored to different stakeholders and audiences.
• Support efforts to embed racial equity and community voice throughout the data lifecycle.
• Be a resource and advocate for using data to inform decision-making within and outside the organization by teaching and empowering others to use data.
REquirements

  • Outcome-driven and familiarity using data to inform business analysis and to drive learning for leaders and program teams
  • Strong data analysis and evaluation {quantitative and qualitative} skills
  • Data visualization creation, including software such as PowerBI, Tableau or GIS mapping
  • Present findings clearly and concisely
  • Able to learn new concepts and software systems as needed
  • Commitment to sharing knowledge, building internal and external stakeholders' data and evaluation capacity, and managing continuous improvement using a collaborative team approach

  • A bachelor's degree( BA/BS/BBA) in business, social sciences, human services, public administration, or a related field.
  • At least 1-3 years' experience in the non-profit sector, with a demonstrated track record of progressing responsibilities
  • Academic or professional training in analysis, visualization, data storytelling or evaluation.
  • Professional experience in similar role preferred.

This is a grant-funded position whose funding is guaranteed through June 2025. Continuance of funding is expected but not guaranteed.
