The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County provides opportunities for people to connect with nature. We offer to the public 60 forest preserves, 166 miles of trails, 47 miles of rivers and streams, and 6 nature and cultural centers. We have 6 million visitors each year.

The District's mission is, "to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure and recreation of its citizens.

Job Summary

This position performs manual labor in maintenance and construction tasks supporting the District golf courses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate motorized landscaping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, rototillers, chainsaws, aerators, sod cutters, and tractors.
• Complete manual labor tasks using hand tools including shovels and rakes.
• Transplant and maintain ornamental shrubbery, remove weeds, prune plants and trees.
• Lift and move equipment and amenities including benches and water coolers.
• Operate District motor vehicles including trucks and snowplows.
• Remove trash in golf course buildings. Clean, sanitize, and deodorize restrooms and replenish supplies.
• Perform routine and other maintenance on equipment.
• Foster a working environment that promotes safe work habits; Become familiar with and observe all applicable safety rules, policies, and work procedures; Follow all safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the District's safety and risk management program; Keep work area clean, orderly, and free of hazards; Immediately report all unsafe conditions and incidents.
• Maintain a supportive working environment and demonstrate a desire to exceed the expectations of internal and external customers.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements:

• 18 years of age or older at time of hire.
• Valid Driver's License in good standing.
• Prior experience in golf landscaping preferred.
• Basic knowledge of the game of golf preferred.
• Familiarity with basic and advanced landscaping equipment.
• Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance practices.

Schedule: Variable schedule with flexible hours during the main golf season. Average 0-20 hours per week during the off season (November- March). Scheduled days may include weekends and holidays with overtime work available.

Pay: $14 - 18 /hour.

Location: The Preserve at Oak Meadows in Addison or Maple Meadows in Wood Dale.

The Preserve at Oak Meadows is an award-winning public facility in the western suburbs of Chicago, featuring an 18-hole golf course, a practice facility, and a new clubhouse. Owned and operated by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, The Preserve's sister courses include Maple Meadows in Wood Dale, and Green Meadows in Westmont.

In 2017, The Preserve at Oak Meadows reopened to the public after a $16 million renovation project that transformed the 288-acre property into an environmental haven with a new, world-class 18-hole layout.
