Lead Manufacturing Engineer - Orolia Defense & Security

Production· Rochester, New York                              Reports to: Sr. Operations Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt                                                 Salary Range: $92,000-$110,000 Annually

We are looking for a Lead Manufacturing Engineer to develop and execute new manufacturing processes, with a focus on New Product Introduction (NPI) and continuous improvement. These processes will be critical to the growth and future success of the company. An emphasis will be placed on developing metrics and collecting data to efficiently target areas for improvement.

 

How I will Contribute:

  • Lead all New Product Introduction efforts from the manufacturing side, including Design FMEAs and Pilot builds to validate the design and manufacturing process.
  • Support the development and validation of changes to existing product and manufacturing processes, and ensure existing processes are enforced.
  • Create and maintain effective Process Flow Diagrams as needed to support Production processes with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Participate in the ECO process to ensure all changes are value add; participate in design reviews, approve design changes, and champion implementation.
  • Research, develop, and implement necessary systems, competencies, and tools required to improve capability and capacity within Operations.
  • Champion the use of lean manufacturing tools to improve efficiency of manufacturing processes with an emphasis on quality.
  • Develop methods to collect actionable data, establish manufacturing standards, and ultimately fuel improvements on Leading/Lagging Key Process Indicators (KPIs).
  • Early engagement in the NPI Process ensuring documentation, assembly processes, test methods, product specifications, packaging, equipment, facility infrastructure, and training are in place to enable a controlled production environment.
  • As part of NPI, participate in design reviews, analyzing new designs for manufacturability and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide input on and support for capital equipment purchases, to include software and web-based platforms.
  • Responsible for creating key process documentation for new products such as Process Details, Test Procedures, and Checklists, among others.
  • Develop and maintain Process FMEAs to establish robust manufacturing processes and determine in-process testing and final inspection requirements.
  • Optimize manufacturing efficiency by planning and analyzing workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout for new and existing product lines.
  • Implement a Preventive Maintenance program for assembly tools, fixtures, and test equipment as appropriate and ensure PMs are carried out as scheduled.

  • Solid knowledge and experience with Lean principles and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to take initiative, multi-task, and prioritize work to meet department goals.
  • Confident, committed, and enthusiastic.
  • Ability to be flexible and have fun!
  • Systematic problem solver, with experience finding solutions using root cause analysis and corrective action (RCCA) and driving implementation.
  • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of GD&T to analyze and troubleshoot design issues, tools, equipment, fixtures, etc.
  • Plus: Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt
  • Plus: Prior experience working with Aerospace, Defense, and Government customers.
  • Position is based in US, with minimal travel (up to 10%)

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 1+ years of leadership experience in a technical role.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn an organization’s processes.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
