General Summary: 

The Staff Accountant I will be responsible for the finance and accounting duties for an Ace Electric Division.  Those duties will also include support as need to the Division Operations and Corporate Accounting. The Staff Accountant I will report directly to the Corporate Controller and indirectly to the Division’s Operations Manager.


Preferred Job Skills:

  • Must have strong accounting and analytical skills with understanding of the working capital requirements of an electrical contracting company. 
  • Able to demonstrate advanced computer and keyboard skills to include MS Office Suite.
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain required levels of confidentiality when entrusted with sensitive business, customer or employee related information.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast paced environment.
  • Able to maintain high levels of productivity, meeting deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
  • Effective and professional communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Able to maintain a pleasant customer service attitude while under pressure.
  • High level of professional business acumen.

 

Mandatory Hiring Requirements:

References, Background Check, Drug Screen Testing, Valid Driver’s License.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for set up and maintenance of jobs including sales tax, Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) and job reporting requirements.
  • Reviews contract terms as it pertains to Accounting requirements.
  • Responsible for contract set up and maintenance, not limited to but including sales tax, billing requirements and lien releases.
  • Tracks and processes change requests and change orders.
  • Tracks and reconciles third party subcontracts.
  • Reviews overhead expenses.
  • Manages job cost transactions.
  • Participates in Job Cost to Completion meetings to include the review of purchase orders, subcontracts, change request/order, cost and projected cost review, and Schedule K. 
  • Maintains documentation organization.
  • Performs all necessary tasks for year-end record keeping.
  • Participates with the annual audit/review and is responsible for the timely filing of reports including sales and use tax reports and tax returns to regulatory agencies as assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining/developing the information systems and processes necessary to insure accurate and timely processing of all company transactions.
  • Provides support as needed to Division Operations and Corporate Accounting.


Position Requirements:

  • License: None required.
  • Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance preferred.  Will consider experience in lieu of education.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in construction accounting.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Work in a climate-controlled office setting with varying degrees of stress and time pressure.
  • Considerable amount of time making repetitive motions.
  • Considerable amount of time sitting.
  • Considerable amount of time using telephone and computer.
  • Sounds, noise levels may be distracting or uncomfortable.


Required Physical/Mental Functions:

  • Comprehend and practice safe work procedures as outlined in Company Safety Handbook.
  • Operate company vehicle.
  • Read and interpret instructional manuals and written instructions.
  • Must hear and see well (either natural or with correction).
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, push, pull and reach overhead.
  • Able to lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Tolerant to prolonged sitting.
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
