Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis (BGCSTL) invites applications for the position of Part Time Youth Development Art Instructor. The Youth Development Art Instructor is responsible for providing fun and engaging programming to youths aged 6-18. Hours are typically 2 p.m. - 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Friday.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required, Associates degree from accredited college or university or BA/BS preferred.
- Minimum of one year experience working with children in a group setting, camp counselor experience a plus.
- Enthusiasm and patience for working with children and passion about education, health, character development and leadership.
- Must be a team player and a self-starter.
- Ability to work well with diverse populations.
- A high degree of independence, flexibility, self-motivation, and creativity.
- Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.
- Ability to organize and supervise youth in a safe environment.
Responsibilities
- Promotes and stimulates program participation among members.
- Provides guidance and role modeling to members.
- Teaches and demonstrates skills and information in art, including drawing, lettering, photography, illustration and art history, painting, sketching, designing, and sculpting. Explains different art elements.
- Establishes, develops, and implements art curriculum and course materials.
- Teaches students how to express themselves through art.
- Instructs students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
- Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
- Selects books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintains required inventory records.
- Plans and presents contests, art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students' work for the Club and the community.
- Organizes visits to museums and art galleries.
- Effectively completes assessments of programs and program participants using a variety of formal and informal assessment tools.
- Inputs and gathers data, as appropriate, in the membership management and/or outcomes management system, works with other staff to implement special projects.
- Ensures a healthy and safe environment for all members.
- Works effectively with supervisor, other staff, members, parents, and community leaders and organizations to provide exemplary services to youth.
