Role Overview

We are seeking a talented and driven System Administrator to join our client-facing MSP team. This technical position is responsible for the safety and security of client healthcare systems and data. Your focus will be on the operational posture of our clients' production environments, including a close working relationship with all business functions within the company. We expect this person to continually drive improvements in production operations while collaborating with the product and development teams to help set infrastructure and security priorities.


The Systems Administrator position is technical in nature and will act as a subject matter expert to be responsible for the company's Azure cloud initiatives. This includes leading and contributing to the design, deployment and support of Azure IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS architectures and solutions. The Azure system administrator will work closely with IT associates of other disciplines such as telephony, systems/cloud infrastructure, and enterprise applications. The ideal candidate will have in-depth experience with cloud deployment and governance models as well as development methodologies and best practice process integration with infrastructure and security operations. The candidate must also have a demonstrated focus, understanding and experience in infrastructure deployment, management and administration to include storage, directory services, configuration management, high availability, and operational support. Additionally, this person will possess a strong drive to learn new technologies, but also a propensity for seeking extreme depth in their understanding of technologies and solutions, drawing from an extensive engineering and architectural background and experience.


In reference to the support portion of the role, the administrator will also be expected to support Focus Systems' managed services. Through the use of ConnectWise systems management and automation the technician will be expected to support end-user PCs as part of this offering. This support level varies between clients and Focus Systems use of ConnectWise's Automate product, enabling administration at scale. This also includes support of our clients MS Office365, Dynamics, Cisco Umbrella, Symantec Cloud, and various other SaaS offering contracted with Focus Systems.

Responsibilities
  • Hands-on Microsoft Azure system administration tasks
  • Manage, maintain and build IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS business systems in Azure environments
  • Support and maintain production servers hosted in Azure
  • Support deployment and configuration of applications in Azure
  • Perform system configuration and patch management
  • Document all platform service processes/procedures and maintain the artifacts in a document repository
  • Review, monitor and escalation of system and security alerts
  • Communicate with stakeholders
  • Research and correct problems identified
  • Work in a rapid-paced environment and work independently
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
  • Assist in architecture discussion, development, planning, and executing upgrades and changes within the Azure environment
  • Perform daily system monitoring and reviews; verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes; reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
  • Ability to follow a structured change management/deployment methodology
  • Developing scripting/automation recipes for managed devices and Microsoft Azure services
  • Emphasis will also be placed on contributing to our infrastructure monitoring and alerting capabilities for our IaaS and PaaS resources
  • PC administration and configuration management as part of an MSP (Managed Service Provider) business offering
  • Direct client support via participation in a support desk role and helpdesk electronic ticketing system
  • Basic Managed Network device support as part of MSP business offering and ability to contact and raise tickets with various ISPs in the event of a data circuit interruption
  • Cloud IaaS and PaaS experience in Azure, including direct VPNs, virtual networking, VM automation and container orchestration
  • Experience with Windows PC operating systems deployment and administration concepts
  • MDM (Mobile Device Management) administration and configuration via MS Intune application
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in field of Management Information Systems or Computer Science
  • At least 3-years commercial experience in Azure System Administration
  • At least 4-years commercial experience with networking technologies and principles
  • 4-5 years of experience with governance of cloud resources using role-based access control (RBAC)
  • 4-5 years of experience with automation and scripting such as PowerShell
  • In-depth experience building and managing IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS in Azure environments
  • Expert-level experience in Windows Server Administration / Performance Tuning
  • Expert-level experience in Active Directory, Azure AD, OAuth and Multifactor Authentication
  • Experience with identity management/federated identity solutions
  • Thorough understanding of security certificates: implementation, administration and maintenance
  • Minimum 4 years of "tier 3" escalated incident response and troubleshooting
  • Understanding of virtualized environments, backup, and configuration
  • Thorough understanding of infrastructure/cloud best practices along with key systems architecture consideration
  • Experience with production monitoring software for vulnerability scanning, threat detection
  • High degree of understanding of networking concepts like VPNs, NAT, IP routing, ACLs and Load Balancers
  • Familiarity with database driven applications
  • Ability to implement scalable solutions to meet the service levels associated with large volumes of users or records to be processed
  • Experience working in an agile environment and within a small team
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines without compromising close attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proactive problem solver with a can-do attitude with the ability to quickly assess problems and find workable solutions
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with IT/Ops, Customer Support, Engineering, QA and other stakeholders
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities
  • A strong work ethic, expressed through the willingness and ability to acquire new skills, multitask, and take on projects outside immediate areas of expertise
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Effective time management skills - ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
  • Self-driven with ability to quickly learn technology and eager to stretch their skills

Additional Skill Preferences
  • Familiar with ITIL standard practices and procedures a plus
  • Extensive experience with server virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Experience with Application security, L7 routing concepts, IDM solutions and API gateways
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and supporting tools such as Jira and Confluence
  • Experience with configuration and change management tools
  • In-depth knowledge of IDS/IPS and related concepts to secure and monitor Azure public cloud
  • Experience with SIEM systems like Splunk and SumoLogic
  • Provide Azure Data Center configuration together with HIPAA Security Envelope to provide and manage EHR hosted environment
  • The following Microsoft certifications are not required but are strongly preferred
    • Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104)
    • Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305)
    • Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty (AZ-140)
    • Azure Network Engineer Associate (AZ-700)
    • Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate (AZ-800 and 801)
Work Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in both a professional office environment and in a work from home capacity. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Ability to lift and carry 40+ lbs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday. The daily schedule may vary from 8 am to 5 pm or 9 am to 6 pm. Hours may vary or exceed 40 in any given week depending on the needs of the business. On-call hours will apply and candidate may be required to come into the office or be available on short notice as needs arise.
