Position Summary

The Heavy Haul Transport Driver A&D is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting large cranes and other company equipment to/from job locations, mobilizing/demobilizing cranes safely, and performing related administrative functions to support work for Inquipco California & Nevada. The Transport Driver may also perform equipment and facility maintenance and inspection, make deliveries, and provide site support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Safe Transportation: Safely transport heavy equipment to and from various job sites. Measure all loads to confirm height and width comply with permit requirements. Ensure both main and aux ropes are properly spooled after off-loading for operation.
  1. Vehicle Operation: Operate and maintain heavy equipment transport vehicles (including 9-Axle Truck/Trailer), ensuring compliance with all traffic and safety regulations.
  1. Loading and Unloading: Assist with the loading and unloading of large cranes and other heavy equipment onto/from transport vehicles using appropriate equipment and securing methods. Direct assembly/disassembly of cranes, ensuring customers do not offload company trailer with a load.
  1. Equipment Check: Monitor critical assets and inspections/service due during Check-In/Check-Out and document. Report and document damage for bill out.
  1. Preventive Maintenance: Assist with fleet readiness by conducting routine inspections and preventive maintenance on transport vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition.
  1. Documentation: Complete necessary paperwork, including DVIR Inspections, daily DOT logs delivery confirmations, maintenance logs, inspection checklists from customers and customer signatures when/where required. Document all fuel usage, DEF, and hours on pick-up tickets.
  1. Communication: Communicate effectively with dispatch, job site personnel, and other team members to coordinate transportation schedules and address any issues that may arise.
  1. Adherence to Regulations: Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations governing the transportation of heavy equipment.
  1. Safety Compliance: Follow established safety procedures and protocols to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others.

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

  1. Technical education or work experience equivalent to a 2-year college or trade school.
  2. Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
  3. ***MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE DRIVING 9-AXLE TRUCK/TRAILERS AND HAULING LOADS IN EXCESS OF 160,000 LBS. + UNLADEN TRUCK/TRAILER WEIGHT***
  4. Minimum of 5 years of transportation experience required at a substantial operating unit of a successful heavy equipment seller, leaser and operator business.
  5. Proven leadership experience in a service role; preferably at least 7 years of leadership experience.

  1. Knowledge:
  1. Understanding of road safety regulations.
  2. Knowledge of heavy equipment transport vehicle operations.
  3. Basic knowledge of routine vehicle maintenance.
  4. Familiarity with geographical areas and effective route planning.
    1. Skills:
      1. Required: 9-Axle Truck/Trailer Driving Experience.
      2. Understanding of road safety regulations.
      3. Knowledge of heavy equipment transport vehicle operations.
      4. Basic knowledge of routine vehicle maintenance.
      5. Familiarity with geographical areas and effective route planning.
      6. Communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
      7. Abilities:
        1. Understanding of road safety regulations.
        2. Knowledge of heavy equipment transport vehicle operations.
        3. Ability to make sound, timely, relevant decisions and judgments in transporting fleet equipment, servicing and maintaining fleet equipment, performing related administrative work and supporting customer needs.
        4. Basic knowledge of routine vehicle maintenance.
        5. Familiarity with geographical areas and effective route planning.
        6. Ability to use the computer as appropriate for job.
