Deutsches Altenheim located in West Roxbury, MA, is a skilled nursing residence, assisted living and post-acute care provider that consistently delivers high-quality, compassionate care while focusing on the development of innovative programs and services that enable individuals to live as independently as possible. We are seeking a Registered Dietician to join the Deutsches Altenheim team and support our residents. As a member of our Dietary Team, the Dietician provides caring and compassionate services to our residents through nutrition education and assessment of individual nutritional needs.

Position Duties:
  • Perform nutrition assessments, annual and quarterly reviews, interim assessments for residents with compromised nutritional status.
  • Participate in care plan development, meal observation, and resident/family, visitation.
  • Provide nutrition education: Advise patients and their families on nutritional principles, dietary plans, diet modifications, and food selection and preparation. Counsel individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life.
  • Regulatory compliance: Assess compliance with the Mass Department of Public Health, OBRA, and JCAHO regulations, review/approve resident menus, monitor food service operations to ensure conformance to nutritional, safety, sanitation and quality standards. Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.
  • Care Planning: Assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions and current health plans to develop and implement dietary-care plans and provide nutritional counseling. Consult with physicians and health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of patient or client. Attend resident care planning meetings twice a week; be an active member of the Interdisciplinary Team and participate in pertinent meeting as needed.
  • Clinical focus: Assess resident weight changes and provide a written report to Nursing Services on a monthly basis: Upon notification from the Nursing staff of weight change, the Registered Dietitian shall assess weight change/significant weight change and implement appropriate interventions; attend weight risk meetings.
  • Staff Education: Conduct in-service Education for the facility staff, participate in new employee orientation.
  • Efficacy of Food service program and meal service: Serve as a resource to the Foodservice Department and assist in the department operations as needed; Participate in departmental meetings. Collaborate with food service manager on recipe development and standardization and develop new menus for independent food service operations. Inspect meals served for conformance to prescribed diets and standards of palatability and appearance. Coordinates with food service manager on sanitation, safety procedures, menu development and planning to assist with establishment, operation, and evaluation of food service facilities and nutrition programs. Develop policies for food service or nutritional programs to assist in health promotion and disease control. Attend dining room committee meetings; Review of diet cards.


Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition or related Health Sciences degree (or foreign degree equivalent).

Required Experience: At least 2 years of professional experience as a dietician.

Required Skills:
  • At least 2 years of experience with therapeutic diets and clinical nutrition;
  • At least 2 years of experience conducting nutrition assessments, annual and quarterly reviews, interim assessments for residents with compromised nutritional status;
  • At least 2 years of experience developing care plans, meal observation, and resident/family, visitation;
  • At least 2 years of experience working tactfully with personnel, resident, family members

visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public
  • At least 2 years of experience maintaining the care and use of supplies, equipment, the appearance of work areas and perform regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation, order, safety;
  • At least 2 years of experience with Mass Department of Public Health, OBRAH, and JACHO regulations and adherence to compliance;
  • At least 2 years of experience providing nutrition education to residents and family members.


Certifications: Must be registered with The American Dietetic Association licensed by The Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
