GENERAL PURPOSE:

Responsible for providing high quality design work to sales and clients in a timely manner while ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction. Uses interior design principles to create design concepts, working drawings and specifications for customers to meet their furniture needs. This position may support both commercial, healthcare, and educational products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop a strong knowledge base of major lines.
  • Develop block plans, layouts, and specifications and check all plans for design integrity, completeness, and compliance with local codes and ADA requirements.
  • Maintain contact with clients during critical phases of each job, including site visits as appropriate.
  • Assist sales during client presentation and in the development of sales strategies where appropriate.
  • May attend initial client meeting with salesperson to gather programming data.
  • Collaborate with professional services of other licensed trades (i.e., GC, electrical contractor, etc.) regarding the furniture and client requirements.
  • Works as a team player with Sales, Order Management and Operations throughout all the critical phases of each job.
  • Generate required documentation for installation phase of a project.
  • Participate in reviewing post occupancy evaluation and punch list.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the industry, products, methods, and promotional strategies, as well as trends in design.
  • Create presentation boards and/or sales tools when needed. Maintain inventory of presentation materials.
  • Assists sales with finish selections.
  • Maintain accurate client files, both off and on the computer.
  • Manage workload in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Contribute new ideas to better develop or create design processes and procedures.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
  • Work as a 'team player' to Sales Members and other operational employees.
  • Maintain inventory and organization of finish samples in Library.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associates' Degree in Interior Design ideally, a minimum of 3 years design experience; industry experience is an advantage.
  • Experience with space planning, specification and systems furniture a plus.
  • NCIDQ Certification helpful.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with a wide range of people, both within and outside the company.
  • Effective organizational skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Flexible to adapt to frequent changing needs.
  • Good problem solver.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professionalism, integrity, sound judgment in business transactions providing the highest level of customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the following areas: AutoCAD (Release 14 or higher), Microsoft Office, Internet. Configura CET Designer helpful.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work equally well as member of project team.
  • Based on assignment, understanding of workspace knowledge and theories and/or successful bid strategies.
  • Must be able to be trusted with confidential information needed to perform work.
  • Excellent client interaction and design skills.
