Description
St. Tammany Parish Mosquito Abatement in Slidell, LA seeks a Research Entomologist. The primary responsibility of this position is to manage research projects to enhance various aspects of mosquito control operations.
Job duties include:
- Manages a team to perform scientific research.
- Develops research protocols and data collection/management systems to achieve research objectives.
- Performs scientific statistical analyses.
- Prepares manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Seeks external funding in the form of grants and contracts to support research efforts.
- Interviews, hires, and manages seasonal assistants.
- Maintains a digital archive of topical peer-reviewed mosquito literature.
- Presents original research at professional scientific meetings.
- Assist with staff training programs.
- Maintains a culture and attitude of safety, cleanliness, and professionalism.
As needed duties and responsibilities:
- Works with administration to develop an operational mosquito management plan.
- Coordinates with the Outreach & Media Specialist to produce and participate in public education efforts and presentations to civic organizations and schools.
- Helps perform district arbovirus surveillance and mosquito identification.
Minimum qualifications:
- Master’s degree in entomology, public health, or a related field.
OR
- Five or more years of management experience in an entomological field.
- Demonstrated ability with statistical analysis software, such as R, SAS, SPSS, or Minitab.
- Demonstrated ability with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint.
- Able to obtain a pesticide applicator license (Category 8D – Mosquito Control Supervisor) issued by Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry within one year of being hired.
- Current driver’s license.
Compensation
Annual compensation of $66,781-$105,215 is dependent on education and experience. In addition, health insurance premiums are currently fully covered by STPMAD. A public employee’s pension plan is provided for retirement benefits.
