Research Scientist (Site Operations Lead)

Northern New York

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced GLP Research Scientist to oversee site operations, lead a dynamic research team, and support business development efforts in Northern New York. This role blends scientific expertise, operational leadership, and strategic outreach to ensure successful study execution, strong client relationships, and continued growth.

The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can balance operational excellence with external engagement.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Oversight

  • Oversee day-to-day site operations, including staffing, scheduling, logistics, and resource allocation
  • Assist in field trial placement as well as conduct a certain number of field trials.
  • Ensure efficient workflows and optimal utilization of resources
  • Manage administrative systems, including:
    • BambooHR: Approve PTO, sick leave, and respond to performance reviews
    • Absorb LMS: Coordinate with Business Manager to ensure training compliance

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop research staff to build a high-performing team
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment
  • Escalate employee concerns through the General Manager or Business Manager (HR)
  • Organize and lead site meetings and team calls; facilitate collaboration using shared spaces

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all operations comply with company policies and industry regulations
  • Conduct routine safety audits and coordinate training sessions
  • Maintain visibility and accessibility of compliance postings and required signage

Customer & Client Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and contract research organizations (CROs)
  • Address concerns promptly and professionally to ensure high satisfaction

Marketing & Contracting

  • Support seasonal marketing initiatives to promote research services and site capabilities
  • Assist in developing client outreach strategies and maintaining a strong pipeline of opportunities
  • Collaborate with leadership on proposals, budgets, and contract negotiations for seasonal studies
  • Coordinate timelines, staffing, and resource planning for contracted projects
  • Represent the organization professionally in client interactions, site visits, and industry communications

Financial & Administrative Management

  • Maintain and update budgeting tools and financial tracking spreadsheets as directed
  • Support operational decision-making with accurate data and reporting

Process Improvement

  • Identify and implement improvements to increase operational efficiencies 
  • Drive initiatives that enhance productivity, quality, and team performance

Reporting

  • Prepare and present regular reports on operational performance, KPIs, and improvement initiatives to leadership

Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience
  • Strong understanding of operational management, scheduling, and logistics of agricultural research trials
  • Experience with marketing support, client development, or contract coordination preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and research compliance standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in an agricultural scientific field (e.g., agronomy, entomology, microbiology, or related discipline)
  • Experience working with agricultural research trials
  • Prior involvement in agrocultural business development or agricultural research contracting
  • History of working with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) involved with agricultural research
