Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to operate a rebar cutting machine to close tolerances in a metal production environment. Opening on 2nd shift, running Mon-Fri, from 3pm-11:30pm.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works to supply products and services that meet or exceed the customers’ expectations. Follows the documented quality systems and processes that are continually being improved to satisfy our customers’ needs.
  • Reads and understands prints, nests, and work instructions and verifies heat numbers before performing work orders.
  • Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
  • Transports materials to or from storage or worksites to a designated area with an overhead crane, forklift, or other devices.
  • Reads and interprets nests and diagrams to size per customer drawings.
  • Sets up, operates, and tends rebar machine, which cuts material to specified dimensions.
  • Guides workpieces into the machine by hand or operates feeding device to guide cuts.
  • Secures lifting attachments to materials and transports load destination, using a hand-operated crane to move the load to destination.
  • Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands bundles together, using a banding machine and clincher. Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers.
  • Records the number of units handled and moved, using daily production sheets.
  • Coordinates with co-workers and works in teams to gain efficiency and productivity.
  • Completes all paperwork required for the work order.
  • May assist Managers or Supervisors in other duties or special projects as needed.

  • Performing General Physical Activities: Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings: Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
  • Operating Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Equipment: Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, overhead cranes, or passenger vehicles.
  • Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates: Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Handling and Moving Objects: Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, moving, and manipulating materials.
  • Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications.
  • Safety and Security; Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective safety for the protection of people and property.
  • Processing Information: Compiling, coding, categorizing, auditing, or verifying information or data.
  • Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, inspecting equipment and maintenance.
  • Tools: Personal protective equipment (hard hats, safety glasses, etc.) tape measure, banding equipment, grinders, grease gun, air gun, forklift, overhead cranes, and other applicable equipment.

Qualifications

  • This position requires the individual to have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); at least 6 months of work-related experience; or a combination of education and experience.

Preferences

  • Prior experience with forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Must be able to accurately read a tape measure.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Working Environment and Conditions

  • Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms to be able to communicate verbally and in writing and take direction. The employee is frequently required to be in a stationary position, move about the buildings, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The individual will be performing physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and movement of the whole body involving things such as lifting, balancing, moving, stooping, twisting, and handling of materials. The individual will frequently operate heavy machinery and use eye-hand coordination. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Employees in this position may have to work overtime and weekends during busy periods or large fabrication jobs.
