Summary:

The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is a federally recognized Tribe with its ancestral homeland located in Niobrara, NE. The Tribe does not have a reservation in the classic definition; rather, the Ponca Restoration Act defined its jurisdiction as a 'Service Delivery Area' comprised of 15 counties throughout parts of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. Within its Service Delivery Area, the Tribe offers a broad range of health, social, educational, and cultural services.

The Data Specialist will assist the Human Services Department with data collection, grant reporting documentation, input of client data, and management of data systems utilized by the Human Services Department. The Data Specialist will support grant activities through ensuring effective and complete data collection as a way to improve programming and services. This position will analyze data received from staff and grant reports in order to evaluate services utilized, effectiveness of services provided, identify ways to promote programming outcomes, and future decision-making for the department.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Enter client information into current data systems to capture data required for grant applications and reporting.
  2. Extract and analyze data to generate reports monthly, or as requested, from relevant database systems to support program planning and decision-making.
  3. Maintain knowledge of current data management systems and practices used within the Human Services field to increase the efficiency of services and programming.
  4. Assist in conducting semi-annual data audits in coordination with the Human Services Director, and any applicable staff, for each specified funding source.
  5. Work collaboratively with Human Services staff by providing the necessary information to assist in project completion.
  6. Responsible for recording data in a detailed and timely manner.
  1. Creates and maintains files of the various funding sources to capture elements of reporting requirements and activities.
  1. Meeting attendance in order to communicate timelines, relevant data, and outcome results.
  2. Ensure client confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines at all times.
  3. Other duties as assigned.


Relationships and Authority:

This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Working Environment and Physical Demands:

This position is in professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, scanners, and photocopiers. This staff will sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during work hours. May be required to work outside normal business hours to include evenings and weekends. This position will be subject to potentially emotionally disturbing material as presented to staff, clients, and outside entities.

Qualifications:

Minimum:
  1. Associate's degree in a human services or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  2. One year of experience with data management systems.
  3. One year of experience in human services.
  4. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs.
  5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  6. Successfully pass drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checks.
  7. Able and willing to travel.

Preferred:
  1. Bachelor's degree in a human services or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  2. One year of experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of Public Law 93-638 Indian Self-Determination Act.
  4. Valid driver's license and be insurable.


Preference will be given to Ponca Tribe of Nebraska members or members of a federally recognized tribe. However, all qualified individuals are eligible.
