  1. Experienced Commercial Construction Estimator

Are you detail-oriented, organized, and knowledgeable about construction costs? We're seeking an experienced estimator to join our team. Here are the key qualifications and responsibilities:

Proven Experience: You should have at least 2 years of experience in commercial estimating. Your ability to accurately assess project costs is crucial.

  1. Review Bid Package: Start by thoroughly reviewing the bid package, which includes construction specifications and contract documents. Understanding the project requirements is crucial for accurate estimating.
  2. Blueprint Reading: Understanding blueprints is essential. You'll analyze project drawings to determine material quantities and costs.
  3. Conduct a Site Visit: Visit the project site to assess its conditions, layout, and any potential challenges. Site visits provide valuable information for estimating costs
  4. Take-Offs: Performing take-offs correctly is a must. This involves quantifying materials needed for construction.
  5. Paperwork and Computer Literacy: You'll complete necessary paperwork, so being computer literate is essential.
  6. Solicit Pricing from Suppliers and Vendors: Reach out to suppliers and vendors to obtain quotes for materials. Compare prices and select the most cost-effective options
  7. Cost Analysis and Judgment: Estimators make accurate judgments and calculations based on specifications and drawings.
  8. Evaluate Labor Requirements: Estimate the labor hours required for various tasks, considering factors like skill levels, productivity rates, and crew sizes.
  9. Construction Knowledge: Having a working knowledge of construction costs and principles is important. Factor in insurance premiums and bonding costs related to the project. These are essential for risk management and compliance. Include indirect costs such as office expenses, equipment depreciation, and administrative salaries. Overhead costs contribute to the overall project budget.
  10. Account for Profit and Contingency: Add a reasonable profit margin to the estimate and allocate contingency funds for unforeseen events or changes during construction.
  11. Engineering Design and Project Management: Experience with quantity takeoffs, purchasing accounting, and engineering design is desirable.
  12. Drafting and Computer Skills: Proficiency in drafting and computer software is necessary.
  13. Degree (Optional): While not mandatory, having a degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture can be advantageous.

The ideal candidate will be versed in all areas of commercial estimating.
