SUMMARY

The automation engineer is responsible for identifying, implementing, improving, and maintaining process automation systems in support of pharmaceutical drug substance, intermediates and fine chemical development and production. The automation engineer ensures functionality and regulatory compliance of process automation systems. Supporting process improvement, capital projects, tech transfer, and plant support as necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates self-directed learning and initiative supporting multiple projects and priorities
  • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of Corden Pharma Process Automation Systems and the control applications that are in use to support these systems
  • Provides technical assistance and support to queries either in person or over the phone. Where applicable, ask pertinent questions to determine nature of problem, to walk customers through a defined and scientific problem-solving process
  • Provides support in the development of applicable procedures, training, and documentation per company, client, and regulatory specifications
  • Resolves technical problems with Corden Pharma Automation Local Area Networks (LAN) and other process control infrastructures/systems
  • Supports the implementation of changes to the Process Control System and process control applications, ensuring compliance of the Process Automation Change Control System
  • Provides system maintenance and troubleshooting, including preventative maintenance tasks. Responsible for supporting plant coverage to ensure process control systems are operating properly
  • Supports the validation of new control applications and maintenance of process controls systems in a validated state
  • Identifies Process Control System improvements to improve system performance while adhering to established standards
  • Supports the review of user requirements and development of automation plans for small projects. Assists management where applicable in the development of automation plans for larger projects

This role has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Role expectations include demonstrating a positive attitude that supports a positive, healthy, and flexible work environment, and provides peer mentorship for department staff.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (BS) from 4-year college or university in a technical field (Engineering, Chemistry, Science), and 1-year Pharmaceutical Manufacturing experience in a technical support or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and understand common information technology technical literature. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with peers, customers, and management.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply problem solving and best judgement to assigned tasks.

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and base knowledge of chemistry, chemical processing theories, application, equipment, and plant operations
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while being flexible to changing work schedules

  • Demonstrate project management skills
  • Willingness to learn new technologies
  • Ability to interpret electrical and process instrumentation drawings (P&IDs)
SALARY

Actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.
