Reports To: Engineer Manager - Tooling Group

Description: Performs all tasks related to new tooling development including but not limited to concept development, sourcing, progress tracking, validation of performance and approval for hand-off to Manufacturing Plants

Responsibilities:

  • Review part design concepts for manufacturability / mold ability and provide feedback to Design group
  • Develop Request For Quote's for the purchase of Injection Molds, Vacuum Forming tools, Piercing Dies, and Press Dies
  • Communicate/Control data and information transfer to Tool Shops
  • Summarize and report recommendation for sourcing location of tooling manufacturing based on cost, timing, past performance and other factors to Engineer Manager - Tooling Group
  • Review/Approve tooling concept designs before start of fabrication, taking into account adherence to KNA Inc Tooling Standards, maintenance requirements, robustness of design, ease of adjustments, ability to meet required cycle time and quality standards
  • Maintain all tooling records related to development and cost
  • Review and approve completion of requirements before payment of invoices from Tooling Vendors (report to Accounting Department)
  • Final Approval/Sign-off to Tool Vendor (US Tooling Vendor or Parent Company) for tool function/ performance and part appearance (based on Customer Approval)
  • Problem tracking history development for feedback to future tool designs (KNA purchased tooling and Parent Company provided tooling)
  • Receipt of requirements and data/Sourcing/Approval of Design Changes to tooling
  • Review and update KNA Tooling Standards and Tooling Approval Checklist as needed for improvement
  • Follow established work practices that support compliance with all company policies, safety standards, 5S practices, regulatory and/or customer requirements
  • Authorities for an employee are granted by means of work instructions, policies, and procedures and/or direction provided by management to meet the requirements of the customer
  • Oversee tooling trials, develop processes, and train plant associates on how to run tools to meet Quality and cycle time requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma + 10 Years Maintenance/Tooling Experience; or BS in ME, IE or ET; or AAS in Mechatronics, Maintenance, or Tooling

Skills:

  • Experience working with Windows operating system as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint),
  • AutoCad, and/or Solidworks experience- preferred
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to write technical reports
  • Effective at Tooling troubleshooting - root cause analysis and problem solving techniques
  • Background with Injection processing and/or injection mold tooling
  • Ability to travel for extended periods of time with limited prior notice
  • Must be able to work any shift and overtime as required to support department/company scheduled targets / objectives in a quality/timing manner
  • Knowledge of ISO/IATF- preferred

Work Environment:

This job operates primarily in an office environment, and routinely uses standard office equipment while performing the duties of this job; the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Physical Demands:

The employee may be required to stand or walk for extended periods of time; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and kneel or crouch The employee may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds The employee may also be required to work in hot temperature.
