Job Description
  • Operate machinery to assist in the production process ensuring quality and conformity products
  • Oversee machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction, as well as stacking, marking, packing, and transporting finished work pieces
  • Perform necessary pre-operation activities and inspections to ensure proper equipment startup and operation on multiple pieces of equipment
  • Setup, program and operate machines assigned to your area
  • Inspect and clean consumable parts on assigned machines
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and diagrams to select, position and secure machinery. Adjusts machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications and in a timely fashion
  • Perform change overs, by changing tools and programs, follow standardized work, and adhere to safe work practices in continuous improvement environment
  • Perform first piece, in-process and last piece inspections for quality and conformity with prints
  • Execute and document quality inspections to make sure all the materials needed for operating are readily available and logically arranged for the production process
  • Coordinate with Quality Control for sample testing and/or adjustments as required by work instructions
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and perform minor maintenance and PMs on machines. Relay findings to maintenance as needed
  • Communicate with team members and support teams to ensure continuous production of the correct product at high quality levels with minimal wasted time and materials
  • Participate and support lean initiatives and continuous improvement processes
  • Ensure proper handling procedures for all materials in area to prevent accidents
  • Follow all safety guidelines/procedures and Insure that all personnel in the area follow proper safety procedures
  • Coordinate with team members and Supervisors to insure timely completion of production schedules.
  • Train other team members on the operation, quality, changeover, troubleshooting, and any new processes and safe work habits to maintain maximum efficiency and safety
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area – meeting 5S guidelines
  • Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor
  • Fill in required documents and reports in a timely manner
  • Understand and follow work processes, company policies and safety protocols including PPE
  • Perform other duties assigned by team leader or supervisor
  • Ability to demonstrate comprehension of positional work instructions – read, interpret and follow
  • Ability to efficiently and safely operate various machines; stamp press, punch press, brake press, RWC, etc.
  • Ability to read and use calibrated tape measures, micrometers and dial calipers to identify standard and metric units based on ticket requirements
  • Advanced machine trouble shooting skills
  • Good math skills – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints
  • Attention to detail to easily identify defects
  • Good eye-hand coordination and dexterity; ability to manipulate tools with both hands and stand for long hours
  • Good organizational and planning skills including time management
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in addition to interpersonal skills required
  • Knowledge of 5s and Lean concepts
  • Ability to use good judgement and strong work ethics and integrity on the job
  • Be a team player and exhibit a positive attitude and results driven
  • Ability to train other team members on the operation, changeover, and troubleshooting process.
  • Ability to understand and follow procedures, work instructions and company policies and safety policies
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-speed environment, follow standardized work and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement environment
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment, to bend, and to stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Understanding of production processes
  • Practice good housekeeping
  • Proficiency with hand tools and eye/hand coordination

High School diploma or GED Equivalent preferably

Previous trade school / mechanical training

3 plus years of progressive experience operating machines including set-up, troubleshooting and monitoring quality in a high volume manufacturing environment is required

On the job training (The training is provided to the production line operators so they can learn how to perform their basic job functions up to company standards. The training period 4 or 6 weeks in most cases

During training, operators have to be monitored by floor leads until they confirm these tasks are being carried out properly
