GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Registered Nurse II Acute provides professional nursing care in licensed Acute Hospitals and Sub-Acute Facilities (“Hospital”) that have contracted with Lifeline Renal Care to provide dialysis to patients of the Hospital and under the license of the Hospital. At all times, the Hospital and the patient’s physician retain ultimate authority over and responsibility for each patient’s care and treatment. This position reports to the Facility Administrator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans and provides patient care for the pediatric, adult and geriatric patients in the hospital in accordance with physician orders, Lifeline Renal Care policy and procedures as well as hospital policy and procedures.
Provides quality direct patient care and renal replacement therapies independently, in a professional, considerate and respectful manner to not more than two patients at a time depending on patient’s condition decided by the patient’s physician.
Supervises and directs patient care of other teammates in a treatment area that may or may not be licensed.
Interacts and communicates with hospital partners in a collaborative, respectful manner, gives pre/post treatment report through appropriate reporting process to hospital primary RN/Staff.
Documents patients’ physical assessment, vital signs, treatment reviews and observations in patient medical records and brings issues to the attention of the physician and primary nurse.
Documents, evaluates and implements dialysis orders.
Analyzes patient assessments, dialysis orders, and laboratory results and, discusses issues with the Nephrologist.
Communicates emergencies, patient life-threatening complications and related incidents to supervisor, hospital staff, and the patient’s physician.
Provides initiation and discontinuation of the prescribed renal replacement therapy, including but not limited to formulating a plan per physician orders, verifying safety measures are in place and complied with, administering medications or other appropriate treatments, and documenting all activity appropriately on the Lifeline Renal Care approved flow sheet or hospital EMR.
Demonstrates the ability to transfer skill set and work in other Hospital settings when required.
Attends Hospital orientation, homeroom meetings, and mandatory in-services as required.
Verifies accurate charges and documentation are submitted in a timely manner.
Enters ACOI Data accurate and in a timely manner.
Demonstrates the ability to learn and perform modalities (hemodialysis, PD, CRRT, Apheresis, and Pediatric).
Other duties as assigned
A facility may be selected to participate in study(ies) under the guidance of Lifeline Renal Care Clinical . Any clinical or administrative duty required by the study protocol, which is provided during the course of a patient’s treatment, is considered an essential duty of the job.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Nursing degree from accredited school of nursing required.
- At least one-year hemodialysis experience.
- Current RN license in state of practice.
- Must meet accreditation standards as required by the hospital.
- Current CPR and ACLS certification required.
- Complete Lifeline Renal Care approved training programs.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Word and Outlook required; functional proficiency in all computer systems of Lifeline Renal Care
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to perform successfully the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the position.
- Ability to read, speak, and write English with clarity of expression sufficient to communicate technical and complex concepts to teammates, patients, and patient family members in clear and easily understandable terms required.
- Ability to understand clinical/medical vocabulary written or spoken in English required.

LEVEL I – Job required tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, tissues, or potential spills or splashes. Use of appropriate personal protection measures is required for every healthcare provider in these positions.

Physical requirements can vary. These must be reviewed with management. However, in general, the position requires the following physical activities:
Ability to lift minimum of 5 pounds to a maximum of 50 pounds unassisted and able to perform repetitive standing, sitting, stooping, walking, stretching, reaching, and use full range of body motions.
