In this role, you’ll make a difference in the lives of people with substance use challenges, and often with co-occurring conditions. What will make you successful in this role?

  • EMT certification, with at least one year of experience in a role conducting vitals and preliminary medical assessments preferred
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays
  • Experience working with clients dealing with alcohol and drug addiction
  • Able to work with diverse populations, cultures and people with co-occurring disorders and disabilities
  • Able to handle and de-escalate emergency situations
  • Comfortable and skilled in time management
  • Ability to collaborate with the team internally and coordinate/collaborate with external partners including (but not limited to) case managers, psychiatrists, social workers, referral sources, medical care personnel, etc.
  • Must show a demonstrated knowledge of computers; including but not limited to, data input, internet navigation, Microsoft word, etc. Ability to write clear narrative reports and treatment notes.
  • Taking and recording vital signs
  • Reviewing history & physical information including communicable diseases from intake to inform quality clinical care while in treatment
  • Ability to interpret a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) assessment history
  • Complete all documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Depending on patient acuity, periodically observes residents for signs of mental or physical decompensation that may require a higher level of care
  • Administers various withdrawal assessment scales and records results in progress notes
  • Assists in collecting fitness information for the Medical Director
  • Contacts emergency resources as needed
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the pharmacology and physiological effects of alcohol and other commonly abused substances as trained on during program’s WM onboarding & yearly training series
  • Makes medications available for client self-administration under a doctor’s supervision, perform medical tests, and record basic information about current conditions of patients
  • Reports all medical incidents to Program Manager, Compliance Manager, and Medical Director as appropriate
  • Reports any unusual occurrences to the appropriate staff
  • Respects and protects the Human Rights of patients
  • Work closely and communicate clearly with other HSI staff and referral resources to provide quality patient care
  • Consistently inputs information in computer, electronic health records, and other record keeping systems to ensure treatment plans and progress notes are complete and up to date according to agency policy
  • Orients new clients, reviews programs and house guidelines
  • Makes or receives calls related to client care
  • Collects, charts and reports client drug tests
  • Maintains and manages medication storage at Detox, pharmacy drop off and pick up
  • Maintain and document 6 Hour Progress Notes for all new clients and Patient Observation Record, (30-minute checks) for all new clients for the first 72 hours
  • Maintain and document client progress notes daily, per shift at the Detox Center
  • Provide telephone referral services information and support
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff members and all current and new agencies.
  • Maintain attendance and punctuality to perform duties as scheduled
  • Attend all staff meetings and required agency meetings unless excused
  • Responsible for always maintaining a clean environment
  • Responsible for informing Program Manager of perceived household, environmental, participant, and personal needs when appropriate
  • Drive program vehicle when necessary
  • Other duties as requested by medical staff or Program Manager
  • Adheres to confidentiality requirements as governed by HIPAA and 42 CFR

What else is required?

  • Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and car insurance.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certificate desirable.
  • Fingerprinting/drug testing required at time of hire.
  • Current flu vaccine/flu shot.
  • TB test
  • The California Department of Public Health has required that all staff in healthcare organization receive the COVID 19 vaccination and boostered. Our organization is a healthcare organization and will abide by this mandate.
