Battery Scientist

Our client in the greater San Diego region is searching for two highly driven battery scientists/senior scientists to help with the company's technological development and battery production. The ideal applicant will have a solid background in chemistry, material science, or engineering, as well as practical expertise with Li-ion and next-generation cell technologies.

The primary responsibilities include supporting and developing electrode formulation through cell testing and targeted experiments, designing new experiments, and establishing procedures for optimizing cathodes, anodes, electrolytes, and separators for Lithium-Ion batteries to increase battery capacity, power, life, safety, and charge performance. This job will also oversee a group of technicians on cell manufacturing, requiring tight coordination with engineers as well as external partners and customers.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Work with cross-functional teams across the entire product life cycle, and work closely with Design Engineering, Quality, and Production to move batteries product concepts and revisions from the initial concept to prototype development and full production.
• Identify, assess, and optimize cathode/anode composites to achieve R&D objectives.
• Effectively explain methods, outcomes, and uncertainties using written papers and in-person meetings.
• Source, characterize, and assess materials from many providers.
• Contribute to technical writing for grants, patents, and reports.
• In an industrial context, construct and test cells with emphasis on rigor, reproducibility, and statistical analysis.
• Perform various duties as needed to support R&D and manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• M.S. has over 3 years of industrial experience in lithium-ion research and manufacture.
• Maintain strict and total adherence to safety regulations, and role model this for all colleagues and customers.
• B. S. has over 5 years of industry expertise in lithium-ion research and manufacture.
• Project management expertise is a bonus.
• Ability to multitask across several teams and projects.
• Ability to act autonomously to achieve objectives
• PHD in chemistry, material science, engineering, or a related discipline with two or more years of industry experience in lithium-ion research and manufacture.
• US citizen or green card holder.
• Able to travel when required to achieve objectives.
