JOB TITLE: Yard attendant/Delivery driver

FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt

POSITION CODE: pfs-2231

REPORTS TO: Transportation Manager/Assistant Transportation Manager

LOCATION: Peck Food Service (Maple Heights, Oh)

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a Yard attendant/delivery position responsible for maintaining trucks in the yard and driving a Straight truck (class B) and/or Tractor Trailer (class A) when needed for the purpose of delivering and unloading various dry, frozen, and cooler products for Peck Food Service customers. This requires using excellent customer service skills and working in accordance with state and DOT regulations and following Company Safety rules and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be 24 years of age or older.
  2. Must have a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with a minimum of 5 years overall driving experience, a minimum of 2 years of driving experience driving a similar vehicle. Also, a maximum of 3 minor moving violations with no accidents or 1 minor moving violation and one at fault accident.
  3. Must possess and be able to present a valid non-expired interstate Medical Examiner’s Certificate Card (MEC).
  4. Must be self-certified as a non-excepted interstate driver with the state licensing agency that issued the CDL (Commercial Drivers License).
  5. Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  6. Able to read, write and communicate in English as it relates to the job and to safety regulations.
  7. Must have basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  8. Must pass a pre-employment Drug screen and Background check.
  9. Previous experience in the food service industry (preferred but not required).

(Please note, effective 5/21/14 medical examiners performing DOT medical certifications

  1. Must be able to safely operate commercial vehicles in a variety of traffic and weather conditions.
  2. Maintain all trucks that are operated by Peck Food Service. ( I.E. Fill trucks with fuel, refer fuel, and DEF as needed, be available to fill in for drivers as needed, transport trucks to be repaired, solve small driver related driver issues, report broken equipment, move trucks around as needed for night shift loaders, report any issues with trucks and communicate with night shift with any truck changes due to breakdowns, double check trucks to make sure reefers are turned on at night etc.)
  3. Must meet or exceed the minimum productivity levels established by the company.
  4. Must effectively plan and organize work activities independent of direct supervision.
  5. Develop a good working knowledge of product and inventory control techniques and procedures.
  6. Maintain ongoing inter-department communications related to routing, safety, and customer relations.
  7. Meet or exceed established cases per error goals.
  8. Demonstrate strong customer relations and problem resolution skills.
  9. When needed, deliver product within assigned route schedule and time windows. Immediately inform the management team of any deviations.
  10. Unload product from truck or trailer, by hand or using hand cart, and place in designated areas per the customers’ request. May include transporting product down ramp, stairs, or docks, in all weather conditions.
  11. Frequently lift, push, or move product that weighs up to 75 pounds. Frequently reach up to 72” to stack and unstuck pallets and hand cart. Constantly bend and pivot while loading and unloading product, and retrieving items from truck.
  12. Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures. Contact management for authorization when there are discrepancies on invoices and communicate all errors/returns.
  13. Collect Money (cash or checks) where required, and turn in all funds collected daily.
  14. Pickup, load and unload damaged goods and customer returns, and complete necessary paperwork.
  15. Perform pre-trip and post-trip procedures in accordance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Peck policies and procedures.
  16. Perform coupling procedures for the tractor trailer as needed.
  17. Complete DOT logs (electronic or manual as required), company vehicle maintenance reports and reconcile with appropriate company representative as required.
  18. Follow preferred work methods at all times, and immediately advise supervisor of any unsafe conditions.
  19. Maintain and safely operate all assigned equipment, including but not limited to: hand cart, pallets, load bars, scanning unit, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  20. Maintain sanitary conditions in truck, tractor, and trailer and assist with maintaining sanitary conditions in the warehouse and yard and proper handling of product.
  21. Attend all required company meetings.
  22. Other driver-related duties as assigned.

must be registered and certified in the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME), and the examiner’s certification date must precede the physical date.)
