FTE: 100% (40 hrs/week)
Compensation: $21.40 - $24.70 depending on experience

Job Summary
This position will support the ongoing landscaping and maintenance requirements per seasonal demand. It will also support the program requirements of the Naropa University campuses. This person must work safely and take into consideration the safety of the people around them. The person in this position preferably has a working knowledge of the following building trades: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and installation and repair of drywall systems as well as some landscaping experience.
This position will also support other areas of the Facilities Department as necessary.
As an essential employee, this position will be required to report to work even when normal operations have ceased; holidays, inclement weather closures, and other crises.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Caretaker Responsibilities:
• Respond in emergency situations and utilize proper judgment in calling for department backup and local first responder support.
• Act as a resource for the department and community.
• Assist in the unlocking of campus in the mornings.
• Act as part of a team and ensure all other members of the department are supported, including occasionally working with them to help them complete their assigned duties.
• Identify and report campus caretaking needs, such as cleanliness, landscaping, and maintenance issues.
• Uphold Naropa policies.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of information including access codes, incident reports, investigation details, and private departmental knowledge.
• Attend and actively participate in all necessary training.
Landscape Responsibilities:
• Daily trash pick-up on all grounds and debris clean up on walkways and entrances.
• Organic turf management – weekly mowing and line trimming (spot work sometimes more often), using only organic methods, aerating, fertilizing, and manually removing dandelions as needed.
• Daily mulch beds clean-up - weeding, pruning, dead material removal, etc.
• Spreading mulch on all beds as needed.
• Watering outdoor plants multiple times a week.
• Watering indoor plants multiple times a week.
• Seasonal bed and pot planting.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and supply inventory.
• Install fences, benches, patios, retaining walls, and hardscape on occasion.
Maintenance Responsibilities:
• Perform routine maintenance work in the following building trades: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC and painting.
• Perform landscape duties as needed.
• Perform custodial duties on occasion as requested.
• Incorporate energy efficiency, conservation and sustainability concepts into maintenance work.
• Complete assigned departmental work requests.
• Perform office moves and the moving of furniture and equipment at various campus locations.
• Perform classroom and special event setup.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and supply inventory.
• Work on Snow Crew shoveling snow as needed
• Perform record-keeping as required by supervisor.
• Respond to Facilities emergencies and on call situations as necessary.
• Abide by Naropa University’s Code of Conduct and all Employment Policies.
What Naropa Requires:
• Experience with the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems or willingness to learn.
• Experience with bobcat, plow truck, and trailer operation or ability to learn quickly.
• Experience with plant care and bed design in urban landscapes.
• Experience with the installation of fencing, benches, patios, retaining walls and hardscape or a willingness to learn.
• Understand Job Hazard Analyses.
• The ability to work safely and abide by Naropa Best Practices.
• Must possess solid communication and organization skills and the ability to prioritize. Strong attention to detail.
• The ability to follow direction and meet deadlines independently.
• Basic understanding of energy efficiency, conservation, and sustainability.
• Basic computer literacy (word processing, excel, outlook).
• Ability and willingness to work early morning/evenings/weekends with emergency call-back.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Willingness to comply with and wear the caretaker apparel provided by the department.
• Be willing and able to obtain and maintain certification in CPR, First Aid, and Universal Precautions.

• 2 years of prior relevant professional experience, knowledge, skills, or competencies required in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and installation, repair of drywall systems.
• A Physical Fitness for Duty exam is required.

What We’d Like You to Have
• 4 years of experience HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and installation, repair of drywall systems.
Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions
• Maximum amount of weight employee must be able to lift/carry unassisted:70 pounds
• During regular daily activities, employee must be able to do the following: stand, walk, sit, handle/finger, bend at the waist, reach above shoulder level, kneel, crouch, crawl
• During regular daily activities, employee may be exposed to the following: interruptions, heat/cold, dust, dampness, heights, moving machinery parts.
