PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The ideal candidate will provide engineering support for all vessel systems typically consisting of 12v/24v systems, breaker box configurations, load calculations, electronic equipment layouts, and generator/UPS systems. The candidate will be responsible for sourcing the appropriate equipment to satisfy the specifications of each vessel through our network of preferred suppliers. Additional requirements include:
- Design to comply with applicable regulating bodies and classification societies.
- Create detailed work instructions for the production floor.
- Design for re-use, standardization, improvement, cost reduction and simplification.
- Produce detailed assembly, fabrication, and layout drawings for production use.
- Perform calculations to determine appropriate component selections and system designs.
- Maintain drawing revisions throughout the build process and keep drawings updated to reflect the correct ‘as-built’ status of each design.
- Create and maintain detailed schematics such as P&ID’s, block diagrams or single line diagrams for the appropriate systems.
- Build and maintain accurate BOMs (Bill Of Materials) for each system.
- Identify and develop maintenance schedules and associated spare parts lists.
- Produce support literature to be included in instruction and maintenance manuals.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 4 years working in mechanical design.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret technical specifications.
- Must have demonstrable experience designing circuits in AutoCAD or DraftSight.
- Experience developing contract technical specifications, purchase specifications, test and trial procedures.
- Must have experience in manufacturing.
- Must have the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly as they arise.
- Ability to work in a team environment with little or no supervision.
- Solid time management, organization and prioritization skills.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
- Experience designing for marine applications.
- Experience in creating parts, assemblies, and drawings using SolidWorks.
- Familiarity with design specs and regulations for the following: IEEE, USCG, SOLAS, MARPOL, ABYC and class society rules: ABS, Lloyds.
- Shipyard, shipboard or boating experience.
- Experience in composites fabrication and design.
- Ability to perform or direct repairs/installation of electrical systems.
