THE OPPORTUNITY

The Development Associate is part of a collaborative development/grant writing team that manages fundraising and investor relations for Community Vision Capital & Consulting. Under the supervision of the VP of External Relations, the Development Associate supports the department functions, including grant writing, institutional giving, individual recruitment and donor development, and event planning. The Resource Development Associate also works cross-departmentally to support communications, community development, real estate solutions, capital solutions, and investor relations and implements strategies for securing new investments.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

General Department Support (40%)

  • Ensures that development records are maintained and updated in the Salesforce database
  • Generates fundraising reports as needed
  • Updates development and organizational process and systems documents as needed.
  • Contributes insights and innovation to organization-wide strategic and development planning, including the annual development plan
  • Ensures that their work supports and aligns with the organization’s mission, values and brand
  • Works with department staff to evaluate system and strategy effectiveness, making contributions to ongoing development and improvement of the department’s work
  • Coordinates execution of memberships and community event sponsorships for Community Vision

Individual Donor Relations (25%)

  • Contributes to establishing the organization’s individual giving strategies
  • Supports the development and maintenance of the organization’s individual and planned giving programs
  • Manages and performs data entry of donations to organization
  • Drafts donor acknowledgment letters, maintaining letter templates and development files

Institutional Giving (20%)

  • Works with the Resource Development Manager to identify, cultivate, and solicit foundation and corporate contributions.
  • Coordinates multi-step processing of grant agreements, payments, proposals, and reports, including facilitating timely approval, signature, and submission of agreements, generating acknowledgment letters and maintaining electronic and paper files.
  • Conducts grant administration, coordinating with the finance team and relevant program departments to prepare and track grant proposals and reports
  • Accurately updates and maintains the development grants management system in Salesforce and tracks details on and deadlines for LOIs, proposals, reports, and pending submissions.
  • Leads and/or provides support to grant reporting and proposal development processes.
  • Contributes to pipeline development of prospective funders by researching and identifying new prospects, including foundation and corporate sources
  • Potential to build experience with grant and report writing

Fundraising & Communication Events (15%)

  • Collaborates with the External Relations team to plan and produce Community Vision events - including annual fundraising events and investor and donor engagement events, and will support the Development and Communications needs of program events, workshops, etc.
  • Assists with coordinating and providing technical support for such events

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Ideal qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of grant writing/fund development experience within a nonprofit CDFI environment
  • Experience successfully applying to CDFI Fund’s FA, HFFI, and/or NMTC a huge plus.
  • Experience working on different types of applications (e.g., Government entities at the federal and city level, foundations, and financial institutions).
  • Familiarity with any of the following areas of focus: affordable housing, community development, real estate, and land access, and community investing.
  • Familiarity with any of the following regions we are focused in Fresno/Central Valley, Oakland/East Bay, and San Francisco.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce, including data entry, reports, and mail merging
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Ability to represent the organization
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building and network development skills
  • Experience coordinating or supporting events
  • Comfort working in a database and experience working in several different technical platforms
  • Ability to work in a team environment, contributing ideas and supporting colleagues
  • Expert attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational skills

MORE ABOUT THE POSITION

The Development Associate is a full-time, non-exempt position, reporting to the Development Manager. The salary for this position is between $75,000 – 84,915 annually, with salary depending on experience. Occasional evenings and out-of-area travel may be necessary. Positions at Community Vision involve regular computer and telephone use plus some minimal lifting. The position will be based onsite at Community Vision’s offices in San Francisco, with the option for a hybrid work schedule.
