Financial Analyst Summer Internship

The internship program at Board of Child Care (BCC) provides students the opportunity to gain work experience, develop skills, make professional connections, strengthen their resumes, learn more about the field they are pursuing, and assess their interests and abilities. Many BCC interns go on to secure employment at BCC following the completion of their degrees.

We are seeking TWO motivated and talented Financial Analyst Interns to join our team for a 10-week summer program. We would agree with you that our name is not the greatest and we hope to change it in the near future! The Board of Child Care is not a federal or state agency. It is an independent not-for-profit organization that is focused on serving children and their families. It has evolved and adapted from orphanages opened 140+ years ago to being a leader in providing high-quality behavioral health, educational, and residential services across the Mid-Atlantic. This internship is based out of BCC's organizational headquarters in Milford Mill, Maryland.

Finance Internship Responsibilities:

  • Assist with developing and maintaining financial models for various programs and initiatives.
  • Utilize your Excel skills to build and update financial reports and dashboards.
  • Create Power BI visualizations to communicate financial data effectively to stakeholders.
  • Conduct financial research and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.

Your Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Sophomore (rising or current), Junior, or Senior with a major in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. Must have completed at least two semesters of undergraduate degree.
  • Strong understanding of financial modeling principles and techniques.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, with advanced skills in functionalities like pivot tables, macros, and formulas.
  • Experience with Power BI or similar dashboarding tools a plus.
  • Excellent communication and written skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for social impact and a desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
  • Background check and drug screen required

  1. What options does BCC offer in terms of summer internship length? What are the hours? The finance internships are 10 weeks in length and we ask that interns be able to provide 24-32 hours per week (32 is preferred). Flexible on which days of the week and selected hours. Flexible with start and end dates, but need candidates to be able to honor at least a 10-week commitment. High-performing interns may be considered for extended opportunities during the academic year.
  2. Is this internship paid? Yes BCC pays an hourly rate to its interns, provides free on-site parking, and offers free lunch daily in the cafeteria. The pay rate will be determined based on the intern's prior professional experience and level of schooling already completed.
  3. What does onboarding and training look like for interns at BCC? All BCC interns complete a general BCC onboarding process, and then finance-specific training is assigned.
  4. Who would my supervisor be? All BCC interns are assigned an internship supervisor. The finance office is not very big (six people), so you'll learn and receive mentorship from several members of the team, including the CFO.
  5. Can I use my BCC internship to meet my academic program’s internship requirements? BCC is used to working with schools for internship placements that may be used for credit or to meet degree requirements. We'll ask you for your specific internship requirements during the interview process to ensure that those requirements can be met.
  6. Can I complete an internship remotely? No. All BCC finance internships require an in-person commitment at our Baltimore Campus location (3300 Gaither Road, Milford Mill, MD). Free parking on site. Some limited remote hours may be approved based on the projects assigned.
  7. Can I become a BCC employee after my internship? Yes, we encourage interns to apply for open positions and have many BCC talent who were previously BCC interns!
