Purpose of Role

The Physical Therapy Clinical Director (Neuro Specialist) will work with Daemen's IMIT team and other partners to further develop and launch the Institute for Mobility Innovation & Technology, which will feature the world's leading robotic devices and assistive technology. This position requires a passion to work with individuals with neurological diagnoses, attention to detail, a collaborative mindset, ability to build a physical therapy practice, and demonstrated interest in research. Successful candidates will have at least five years of experience in the physical therapy field providing care for patients with neurologic impairments. The IMIT utilizes state of the art rehabilitation technology to benefit children and adults. The Physical Therapy Clinical Director (Neuro Specialist) will advance the mission of IMIT, working with a team to implement IMIT's Clinical care, Advocacy, Research, and Education (CARE) model.


About This Opportunity

Joining Daemen IMIT @Villa Maria College, the Physical Therapy Clinical Director (Neuro Specialist) will be responsible for the following:

For implementing and coordinating IMIT operations, including the establishment of clinic policies and procedures, initial startup and ongoing provision of PT services, partner outreach, patient recruitment and enrollment, oversight of training protocols and usage of IMIT equipment, data collection and reporting. Daily activities will include direct provision of services, supervision of IMIT clinical therapists, and coordinate use of IMIT equipment with clinical partners.


Essential Functions

Research and Leadership Responsibilities

  • Work with IMIT Center for Research & Advocacy Director to develop research goals, conduct research, co-author grant proposals, and prepare manuscripts
  • Ensure consistent collection of high-quality data
  • Identify opportunities for advocacy
  • Coordinate IMIT activities with IMIT Co-directors
  • Collaborate with Daemen faculty to identify and coordinate student educational opportunities
  • Contribute to marketing, communications, and fundraising efforts
  • Advise the IMIT operations committee
  • Participate with IMIT Advisory Council
  • Maintain system for data collection and reporting

Operational Responsibilities

  • Develop collaborative relationships and agreements with clinical partners
  • Identify, implement, and monitor continuous improvement strategies
  • Assists the IMIT clinic in achieving an optimal level of productivity while ensuring delivery of quality patient care
  • Work with Daemen faculty to facilitate use of IMIT clinic for clinical practice
  • Manage and maintain warranties on identified equipment including scheduling preventive maintenance and repairs when necessary
  • Manage IMIT clinical team, including performance reviews and scheduling
  • Administrative duties as assigned
  • Upholding ethical and professional behaviors in self and all other IMIT employees in alignment with current Clinical Procedures

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient medical records, performs initial assessments, develops treatment plans, administers physical therapy treatments and modalities, monitors progress and documents treatments performed with patients (including discharge planning and patient education) in order to increase overall functioning, reduce discomfort, increase or maintain flexibility and range of motion/strength, and achieve other therapeutic goals
  • Coordinate with other interprofessional providers on shared plan of care and health outcome goals
  • Communicates patient's status to the referring physician and other health care team members
  • May serve as a clinical instructor for physical therapy student clinical internship placements, as well as residents and fellows in a specialty area of physical therapy
  • Performs physical therapy assessment, reassessment and treatment and supervises IMIT staff in the treatment of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients referred by a physician to the clinic
  • Develops plan of care including goals and treatment plan in accordance with physician referral, nature of injury/illness and results of physical therapy assessment
  • Modifies or adjusts plan of care based on patient's response to treatment and/or changes in patient's status
  • Maintains documentation for all physical therapy services rendered including documentation of initial assessment, follow-up visits, and discharge summary consistent with department standards
  • Maintains professional license/registration through steady pursuit and participation in appropriate continuing education and professional development opportunities to satisfy requirements for licensure/registration renewal

Required Qualifications

  • Physical Therapist graduate of an accredited program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)

ABPTS Neurologic Clinical Specialist (NCS) preferred

  • Licensure, Certifications, And Clearances
  • Active, unrestricted, license in NYS
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal Administrative and/or management experience

Must possess skill set to work within a collaborative group setting

  • Must possess knowledge and skills required to provide quality customer service and work with patients with a variety of pediatric, orthopedic, and neurological diagnoses
  • Experience conducting research and writing grants is a plus
