Job Description

Position: School Psychologist
Location: Summerville, SC

Job Summary:

The School Psychologist provides psychological services to students, parents, and school staff to support academic achievement and social-emotional well-being. They assess students' cognitive abilities, emotional functioning, and social skills, and develop and implement interventions to address individual needs. The School Psychologist collaborates with educators, administrators, and families to create a positive and inclusive learning environment conducive to student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments of students to identify learning disabilities, emotional disturbances, and other factors impacting academic performance and behavior.
  2. Interpret assessment results and communicate findings to parents, teachers, and other stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner.
  3. Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) for students with special needs, in collaboration with educators and other members of the IEP team.
  4. Provide counseling and crisis intervention services to students experiencing academic, social, or emotional difficulties, and make appropriate referrals to outside resources as needed.
  5. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to create positive and inclusive classroom environments that promote academic success and social-emotional development.
  6. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review student progress, develop intervention strategies, and make recommendations for educational programming.
  7. Conduct research and stay informed about best practices in school psychology, including evidence-based assessment and intervention techniques.
  8. Provide consultation and training to school staff on topics such as behavior management, conflict resolution, and crisis prevention.
  9. Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities and other vulnerable populations within the school community.
  10. Maintain accurate and confidential records of assessments, interventions, and consultations in accordance with school policies and legal requirements.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree or higher in School Psychology or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Certification or licensure as a School Psychologist in [insert state].
  • Previous experience working as a School Psychologist or in a related role preferred.
  • Strong assessment, counseling, and intervention skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of special education laws and regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Proficiency in using assessment tools and technology for data collection and analysis.
