SPD Supervisor

SPD Supervisor (3rd shift)

Role Summary: Oversees and supports supervision of all shift activities that relate to the reprocessing of reusable medical supplies, high level disinfection (HLD), and storage processes within all set professional standards and regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Ensures proper operational procedures are followed by department staff
• Maintains understanding and compliance of surgical tray and instrument tracking system and produces monthly reports
• Answers and responds to calls from the operating room and other departments during and after regular business hours as required
• Provides back-up on weekends for staffing needs- Places requests for agency staffing and ensures the department is covered. Escalates unfilled needs to SPD/Periop director. Leadership may fulfill need if appropriately trained.
• Oversee operations for mutually agreed upon shifts
• Support daily processing demands as available
• Communicate with Leadership regarding scheduling and shift coverage
• Perform regular tray audits and supervise staff in their work
• Daily review of next day’s schedule with OR Charge nurse
• Document Personnel performance issues and participation in disciplinary action meetings
• Regular meetings with OR CNII’s and Provident designated leader
• Enter safety events in eMers and respond to eMers reports within 48 hours per policy
• Audit trays for bioburden and correctness
• Submission and reporting of work tickets related to all equipment malfunctions to Perioperative Services leadership
• Competency in Clairvia scheduling to back-up to the SPD Manager.
• SPD shift supervisors will rotate taking weekend/holiday calls with the SPD Manager for Stroger.
• Assists with data collection to provide reports &KPI metrics as defined in “Reports and KPI” section to Infection Control, quality and CCH leadership

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years experience working in sterile processing
• One year experience in leading/supervising staff
• Prior sterile processing technician experience
• Current certification (CBSPD or CRCST)
• Associate degree from two-year college or technical program required
• Ability to work days, nights, and weekends and rotating shifts as needed
• Covid-19 vaccination required, dependent on hospital location
