Job Description

AZTEC is seeking a Construction Administration & Inspection (CA&I) Group Leader in Phoenix, AZ to support our growing team! This role will oversee the CA&I Group in our Energy practice of the company.

Job Description:

Responsible for directing and managing CA&I team as a part of our Owner’s Engineering activities focused on renewable energy-related projects. This role is required to interface with clients and Federal, Local, and State government agencies for renewable energy projects located anywhere within the country. Travel is required to attend meetings at project locations from time to time.

Primary Job Duties:

  • Review CA&I reports summarizing project progress, cost and schedule analysis, NCRs, findings, description of the issues, and recommendations with supporting rationale
  • Read and interpret EPC contracts, engineering plans, specifications and technical reports, and construction activity reports. Communicate and coordinate with in-house engineering groups when addressing complex technical issues
  • Experience speaking to the public and interacting with Owners, EPC contractors, local and agencies
  • Demonstrate clear and concise, oral and written communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to coordinate meetings, resources, and presentations
  • Must be able to demonstrate successful records of Business Development, program/project management for established A-E firms, managing budgeted construction monitoring efforts, and demonstrated skills working in multi-discipline teams
Group Leader:
  • Lead a diverse team and contribute to the continuous growth of the CA&I group
  • Interact with clients at project management level
  • Contribute positively to a committed, professional team environment
  • Manage the financial performance and reporting requirements of our CA&I group
  • Recruit key CA&I group staff to extend our group capabilities
  • Mentor CA&I group staff for their career development
  • Familiar with new technologies facilitating the effectiveness of field inspections (e.g. drone technology, BIM, etc.) and promoting them within the group
Project Management:
  • Develop project scopes and budgets, interface with and maintain clients, mentor and develop junior staff, and develop project plans and schedules
  • Meet with clients to prepare and or validate proposed scopes of work
  • Prepare fee proposals for construction supervision work
  • Ensures internal communication and coordination with in-house design groups for challenging problems arising through construction activities
  • Provide technical knowledge in construction management for federal, state, and local governments
Job Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent
  • Must have a minimum of 15 years of construction management experience
  • Must have team management experience
  • Expert in Construction Management and familiar with the design of large-scale renewable energy projects
  • Scheduling. Primavera P6 and MS Project proficiency. Experience working with document control platforms (ex.: Procore and others)
  • Understanding of, and experience with all facets of construction contracts.
  • Good analytical, problem solving and data management skills are essential
  • Must be a good communicator with experience in technical writing, and oral presentation
  • Must demonstrate ability to manage projects, develop work, and provide excellent client service
  • Travel required when necessary.
  • Valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier

Working Conditions and Environment:

This position will require general supervision and will have to use independent judgment within established guidelines. Generally, uses advanced knowledge to analyze, interpret, or make deductions from varying facts or circumstances. Will need the ability to establish rapport quickly with others working on the same project, and be able to promote a positive team environment. Working knowledge of dealing with a diverse population while using tact, diplomacy, and respect.
